2018 was a tough year for India as the country faced widespread destruction due to floods and other natural calamities. The devastating floods in Kerala hogged the limelight causing massive loss of life and damage to property. According to the National Disaster Management Authority, 503 people were killed in the floods as of September 23, 2018. Around a million people were shifted to safer places by the authorities. It is the worst flood in the state following the great flood of 99, which occurred in 1924.
Apart from Kerala, Karnataka, Assam, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha, and Nagaland, were also impacted by the floods, heavy rainfall and landslides, which caused major damages during the current monsoon season.
