The automobile industry has also suffered possible losses of about Rs. 15,000 crore.<\/li>\n<li>Lack of co-ordination between government agencies and independent relief camps is causing problems in the relief work as there is lack of information about the flood-affected areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>US offers help for flood victims<\/h2>\n<p>11:58 AM IST, Dec 4, 2015 &#8211; The U.S. expressed heartfelt grief at the flood situation in Chennai and Tamil Nadu. The State Department Deputy Spokesman Mark Toner, while speaking to the media, said that they would like to extend assistance to the people who have been affected by the floods. Acknowledging India as one of its strong partners, Toner said that U.S. is in constant touch with the Indian Government and discussing ways as to how they can provide help.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"map-&amp;-info\">Air services in Chennai to resume today<\/h2>\n<p>10:25 AM IST, Dec 4, 2015 &#8211; The people of Chennai are in for relief as the rains have let up and there has been a sharp fall in the water levels of the Adyar and Kumbh rivers. This has fast-tracked rescue operations. While train services are likely to begin after 5 November 2015, sources said that 7 flights would be operated by Air India and some private airlines from the Rajali Naval air station. Chennai Airport has been shut till 6 December where 3,500 people are still stranded. 15 teams of National Disaster Response Force\u00a0 and 16 rescue teams of the Army have been deployed to the city. More rescue teams from Delhi and Bhubaneswar are being put into action in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The Meteorological Department has warned that the next 48 hours are crucial as more rain is expected in coming two days. It is expected that the floods in Chennai will result in a financial loss of about Rs. 15,000 crore. Tamil Nadu\u00a0 CM J. Jayalalithaa has written to PM Narendra Modi seeking financial help of Rs. 8,480.92 crore from the Natural Disaster Relief Fund\u00a0. The Rajya Sabha members have offered to donate a part of their MPLADS funds for the rescue work in the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 PM Narendra Modi took an aerial survey of Chennai and announced a relief of Rs. 1000 crore for Tamil Nadu.<br \/>\n\u2022 Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that he is leaving for Chennai to take a stock of the situation.<br \/>\n\u2022 Reportedly more than 35 lakes are flowing at dangerous levels, which may cause more floods in Chennai as surplus water is flowing in the city.<br \/>\n\u2022 Tamil Nadu CM J.Jayalalithaa chairs a high level meeting to review the ongoing relief and rescue operations.<br \/>\n\u2022 Rajnath Singh in a statement in Lok Sabha said that the death toll in Tamil Nadu due to floods has reached 269.<br \/>\n\u2022 Andhra Pradesh and Odisha offer help to Tamil Nadu.<\/p>\n<h2>Record rains cripples life in Chennai<\/h2>\n<p>11:30 AM IST, Dec 2, 2015 &#8211; Chennai is receiving incessant rains since 1 December 2015, which is also termed as the heaviest in the last 100 years. The heavy rains have crippled the life as numerous roads, train tracks, airport runways have been flooded. As per recent reports, all flights have been suspended in Chennai Airport and 19 trains have been cancelled. Rescue operations have been started and the Defence forces along with the National Disaster Response Force have reached Chennai to save lives. Schools have been closed and exams have been postponed. In many parts of the city, residents have opened doors for stranded people. The meteorological department has predicted heavy rains for next 4 days in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. With death toll reaching 188, PM Narendra Modi has assured help from the Centre to Tamil Nadu CM J. Chennai Egmore-Mannargudi &#8216;Mannai&#8217; Express, Chennai Egmore-Tiruchirapalli &#8216;Rockfort&#8217; Express, Chennai Egmore-Salem Express, Chennai Egmore-Karaikkal &#8216;Kamban&#8217; Express, Chennai Egmore-Thanjavur Express, a Southern Railway press release said.<\/p>\n<p>The 11 trains that were diverted include Manduadih-Rameswaram Express, New Delhi-Pondicherry Express, Chennai-Kanniyakumari Express, Nizamuddin-Kanniyakumari &#8216;Tirukkural&#8217; Express, Chennai-Trivandrum Express, Chennai-Tirunelveli Express, Chennai-Madurai &#8216;Pandian&#8217; Express.<br \/>\nChennai-Mangalore Express, Tiruchirapalli-Howrah Express, Madurai-Chennai &#8216;Pandian&#8217; Express,Tirunelveli-Chennai &#8216;Nellai&#8217; Express, the release said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>Heavy rains take about 80 lives in Tamil Nadu<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Nov 18, 2015 &#8211; At least 111 people have lost their lives as heavy rains resulted in floods in Tamil Nadu. Chennai has been badly affected by floods as around 59 people have been killed in the capital so far. As per media reports, the incessant rains are caused due to a depression in the Bay of Bengal coast near Tamil Nadu. Reportedly, the low pressure system is moving towards the southern coast of Andhra Pradesh resulting in rains in the state. So far, thousands of people have been rescued and shifted to safer shelters.<\/p>\n<p>The Meteorological department has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rains in the next two days. Fishermen have also been warned not to venture into the sea. Many schools and colleges have been shut due to incessant rains. Relief operations are underway in the state. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Jayalalithaa has announced a sum of Rs. 500 crore for relief and rehabilitation in the state. She has also ordered to open 50 farm fresh outlets in Chennai to meet the increasing demand.15 senior IAS officers have been deputed to Chennai to look after the relief operations. Army and NDRF have also joined the rescue operations to save more and more people.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Many trains and flights have been affected due to the floods.
