Previously, the company was given an 18-month deadline along with a budget of nearly Rs. 165 crore to complete the project in 2009. All the rescue operations have been completed with the rescuers having worked overnight using saws, cranes and jackhammers to track people trapped in debris.<\/p>\n<h3>\nKolkata Flyover Collapse: Army rules out possibility of spotting more survivors<\/h3>\n<p>03:30\u00a0PM IST, 1-04-2016 &#8211; After handling an overnight rescue operation, the Army rescue teams have said no more bodies are expected to be retrieved from the debris. Currently, the focus of operations is solely on removal of debris along with thorough clearance of the road in order to restore normalcy. The GOC Bengal Area, Lt. Gen Rajeev Tewary is monitoring the progress of the Army teams at the site.<\/p>\n<h3>Kolkata Flyover Collapse: Builder hints at a possibility of bomb blast<\/h3>\n<p>03:20\u00a0PM\u00a0IST, 1-04-2016 -The builder of the flyover, IVRCL, is already facing sharp criticism for calling the collapse an \u2018act of God\u2019. The company&#8217;s legal adviser, Sheela Peddinti, quoted that the glass was shattered and hence it could have been a bomb blast. Previously, five officials of the construction company were also detained in Kolkata.<\/p>\n<h3>Kolkata Flyover Collapse: Death toll rises to 25; 90 people rescued so far<\/h3>\n<p>10:00\u00a0AM\u00a0IST, 1-04-2016 &#8211; At least 25 people were killed as the under-construction flyover collapsed on Thursday evening in the busy locality of Barabazar in North Kolkata. After a 100-metre length of the flyover collapsed, the rescuers worked through the night with cranes and jackhammers to clear huge slabs of concrete and rescue 90 people. According to Police Commissioner Ajay Tyagi, most of the people rescued so far have been seriously injured and there could many still buried under the debris.<\/p>\n<h3>Kolkata flyover collapse: At least 14 killed and 40 sent to hospital<\/h3>\n<p>4:44\u00a0PM IST, 31-03-2016\u00a0&#8211; Over 160 Indian Army personnel have got into the task of rescuing the trapped people. They are using heat cameras to detect the people trapped inside. The control room has set up a helpline number 1070. Civilians have been reportedly helping in the rescue efforts as the army has arrived. The state government has announced compensation of Rs. 5 lakh for the family of the deceased, Rs. 2 lakh for the seriously injured people and Rs. 1 lakh for injured.<\/p>\n<p>3:30 PM IST, 31-03-2016\u00a0&#8211; An under-construction flyover near Ganesh Talkies (Girish Park) in North Kolkata collapsed on Thursday afternoon leaving at least one dead and several injured. The incident took place in a densely populated locality in Barabazar.<\/p>\n<p>As the rescue operations continue to take out the people trapped under the debris, the locals and the eyewitnesses claim that at least 100 people could be trapped. The collapse also caused spillage of fuel from the fuel tanks that were kept under the bridge. Fire brigade officials arrived at the spot after it sparked fire. According to the local residents, they heard a loud explosion after the bridge came crashing down.<\/p>\n<p>Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who is in West Bengal today, expressed his condolence to the families of the deceased. Apart from Army, the National Disaster Response Force personnel have also been sent to the spot to help in the rescue efforts.<\/p>\n<p>This Vivekananda Road flyover is a project that was being developed by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). It is a Rs 164-crore project that the Left front government had initiated in 2007. The idea was to decongest the road by facilitating smooth movement of traffic.
