According to official figures, around 45,000 people have been affected by flood in Darbhanga district alone.

Rescue operations have been launched and teams from India’s National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in the affected areas but they are facing a tough time as crops, transport and communication infrastructure have also been severely affected.

In the northern part of Bihar, major rivers including Kosi, Gandak, Kamla Balan and Bagmati are all flowing at very high levels, breaching their embankments, after heavy rainfall in Nepal.

So far, 9 districts have been affected by floods. These include Bagha, Gopalganj, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Supaul, Saharsa, Khagaria, Darbhanga and Madhepura.

As heavy rains cease to abate in Nepal, the situation in Bihar is expected to worsen over the next few days.

As for reasons of the current flood, Bihar has higher, mountainous regions with gushing currents that often inundate lower areas. The Koshi Dam in Nepal too aggravates the situation as the authorities in that country often have to open the dam when that country suffers from heavy rain, and the flood water is thus diverted to Bihar.

Related Information:

Areas Affected by Flood in Uttar Pradesh

Areas Affected by Flood in Bihar

Areas Affected by Flood in Himachal Pradesh

Flood situation grim in Bihar Bihar these days is facing the flood fury brought about by heavy rains and landslide in Nepal with thousands of people in the districts such as Darbhanga, West Champaran and Nalanda districts getting severely affected.
