Bollywood movies released in 2014As I watched the last movie of 2014 last week, my heart began to ponder over the visual delights this year blessed me with. Year 2014 turned out to be a grand canvas for Bollywood. If I could some up the entire year in a word I would definitely say- Big! Big banners, big releases, big hits, big stars and of course, some big flops! Cinematically, 2014 ended up being one of the most amazing years of Bollywood as it brought back some golden faces the screen had been missing lately. It was the year of comebacks, rife with ample stories that gave the actors a chance to revive their stature in the audience’s heart. 2014 was an eccentric ride full of action, comedy and emotion. As much as the hits got the cash registers ringing, the flops really got the audience yelling! But as they say, take forward only the good and let the bad be left behind, I am going to take a quick sneak-peak at the movies that managed to hit the right chord with the audience! So here is what Bollywood 2014 had to offer:

1. Sholay 3D

The year had a heartwarming start as one of the most glorified classic of Bollywood hit the theaters yet again! The newbie 3D effects were much appreciated but what left the audience happy-hearted was that feeling of watching this epic film on the big screen after almost 4 decades!

2. Dedh Ishqiya

The dancing goddess Madhuri Dixit made a remarkable comeback with Vishal Bharadwaj’s Dedh Ishiya! Decked up with elegance and poise, the film received critic’s acclaim for its poetical dialogues and bold content.

3. Gunday

Right on the Valentine’s Day, two handsome hunks stung the heart chord with a splendid performance in Gunday! The film gave the film industry its new Jai-Veeru, Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor!

4. Highway

Yet another brilliant work by Imtiaz Ali, Highway was one special film this year! Impressively unique in its content and direction, the film really had a lasting effect on the viewer’s heart. What more, it got the legend A.R Rahman back to awesome self!

5. Queen

2014 gave more power to women! Queen was an absolutely marvelous projection of an alpha-woman who had the world at her footsteps. Kangana Ranaut delivered the best performance of her career and Queen turned out to be a masterpiece on the innate strength of women.

6. 2 States

A brilliant adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s bestseller, 2 States was a big-shot entertainer! The film gave a ray of hope to the thousands of love-struck hearts who have been striving to thrive amidst the barriers of the inter-caste marriages!

7. Holiday

A Khiladi-Kumar starrer, Holiday paid a remarkable homage to the life of an Indian soldier. Akshay Kumar’s action and Sonakshi’s Sinha humor made the film a complete entertainer!

8. Ek Villain

A heart-wrenching performance by the newbies, Siddharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor, championed the film into the 100-crore club. Ek Villain also turned out to be a musical sensation as entire album rocked the charts for a very long time.

9. Kick

Salman Khan’s second release after Jai Ho, Kick made a thumping entry on box-office earning a business of 100-crores withing four days of its release. Released in over 42 countries world-wide, the film was a massive success amongst Salman fans.

10. Singham Returns

It was the much awaited sequel this year! Rohit Shetty’s super-stunning actioner hit the bull’s eye on Independence Day. The film made good business within a few days of its release. Honey Singh’s Ata Majhi Satakli served as the cherry on the cake!

11. Mardaani

Yet another woman-centric flick, Mardaani proved to be a smashing comeback for Rani Mukherjee! Mardaani was an eye-opener as it touched upon one of the most sensitive yet less-talked about issue of the society.

12. Mary Kom

A biopic on boxing champ Mary Kom, the film was widely welcomed by the audience. Priyanka Chopra’s earnest performance earned her the critic’s acclaim. Mary Kom did a fantastic job at the box-office!

13. Haider

One of the finest adaptations of Shakespeare’s work, Haider was a cinematic prodigy by Vishal Bhardwaj! Tabu made a replenishing comeback and Shahid Kapoor got the best break of his career.

14. Bang Bang

The whacky Bang Bang dares given by Hrithik Roshan to other celebrities elicited quite a fascination for the movie. A stellar performance by Hrithik Roshan became the sole reason for Bang Bang‘s success.

15. Happy New Year

King Khan jazzed up Diwali celebrations with his long awaited film, Happy New Year! The film had a record-breaking opening and became the top grosser of 2014 with a stunning collection of 300 crores worldwide.

16. Rang Rasiya

Ketan Mehta’s Rang Rasiya was a heart-rendering tale of an outrageous painter who defied the long established social norms. The film received several accolades for its beautiful execution.

17. PK

While the other two Khans made a splendiferous entry this year, how could the Aamir lag behind! PK was the most awaited movie of 2014 and therefore had an equally resounding welcome on the box-office. The controversial radio-clad poster of Aamir Khan had mounted enough excitement to make the film a box-office hit.

So this was Bollywood 2014, thriving with grand entries and come backs. Overall, it was a jolly ride embedded with laughter and emotion. Lets bid adieu to 2014 with an anticipation of an equally enticing cinematic year 2015! Fingers crossed!
