New SUV debuts and launches at 2020 Auto Expo

From the Seventh to the twelfth of February 2020, Greater Noida will play host to one of the biggest automotive shows in the world, The Indian Auto Expo. This Auto Expo will see numerous new launches, most of which would be the next generation of passenger automobiles – hybrids and electrics. Although a lot of manufacturers will not be attending the expo this coming year, the ones who will be, shall be putting up enough display to fill the stalls and our schedules of stalls to visit, while at the expo.

SUVs seem to be the new trend in four wheelers, and with the recent explosion of their demand in the Indian market, sales of the newer models are going off the charts. There is a particular favouritism for the compact and urban SUVs and as a result, the forthcoming Auto Expo 2020 will be bringing with it fifteen new additions to the Indian SUV bazaar.

Tata Harrier BSVI upgrade with automatic transmission

The Tata Harrier, along with a few of its cousins will be making its way to the 2020 Auto expo. Among the new upgrades on the car, it will feature a panoramic sunroof, an 8.8 inch touchscreen infotainment system with a piano black central console, eighteen inch dual tone alloy wheels, and a brand new BSVI compliant two litre four cylinder diesel motor mated to a six speed automatic transmission unit that would offer a hundred and seventy PS of power at three hundred and fifty Newton Metre of torque.

Tata Nexon Electric

The Nexon electric will also be presented at the auto expo and is expected to hit showrooms by March next year. Tested at the high altitude proving grounds of Leh and Manali by celebrity automotive enthusiasts Milind Soman and Ankita Konwar, the Nexon EV comes with a hundred and fifty kilometre range on full charge of its lithium ion powerpack, and an eight year warranty on both the battery and the electric motor. Featuring the company’s new Ziptron tech, the car motor will comply with the IP67 dust and waterproofing standards and will also use regenerative braking for battery charging on the go. Expected to come at a cost of Rs. fifteen to eighteen lakhs, the Nexon EV will challenge the likes of the XUV 300 electric.

Tata Nexon Facelift

The facelifted version of the existing Internal combustion engine Nexon will make its debut along with its electric sibling. Featuring the Tata 2.0 design language, the car would come with quite a few cosmetic changes although the powertrain would remain pretty much the same. However, the 1198 cc petrol and 1498 cc diesel engines have been made BSVI compliant and will be offer transmission options of a six speed manual or a six speed AMT.

Tata Hornbill

The much awaited H2X will be given the title “Hornbill”  after the endangered tropical bird, and will take its place among the compact urban, sub-4 metre SUVs. It is based on the company’s Impact 2.0 design ideology and is constructed on their Agile light flexible advanced platform. Likely to be offered with only one engine variant – a 1.2 litre petrol the car will also feature micro hybrid technology and a five speed manual or AMT transmission unit. Built to rival the likes of the Maruti S-presso, the Hornbill might just dominate the fresh new segment that the Indian market has just accommodated some space for.

Tata Buzzard/Cassini/Harrier 7 seater

Unsure of its nomenclature as of now, Tata introduced their seven seater SUV at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. Similar in design to the Harrier and possibly sharing its engine line up as well, the Buzzard is expected to be the most expensive Tata SUV on offer in the Indian market. A panoramic sunroof, eighteen inch alloys and a choice between manual and automatic transmission are some of the features  that the Buzzard will offer.

Hyundai Creta

The second generation Creta will also be premiering at the 2020 Auto Expo. Based on the second gen iX25, of the international SUV market, the new facelifted and restyled Creta will be larger in size and will share Kia Seltos’ BSVI compliant line-up of 1.5 litre petrol and 1.4 litre turbocharged diesel engines. The car will also feature Hyundai’s blue link connected car application and telematics.

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza facelift

True to its promise of pulling the plug on all its diesel cars one by one, Maruti Suzuki is now coming up with a new facelifted version of their Brezza which will be powered by a 1.5 litre petrol engine, also shared by the Ertiga and Ciaz. The  BSVI compliant engine will be mated to either of two options – manual and automatic transmissions, and provide a power output of 104 PS at 138 Newton Metres of torque.
