Triumph motorcycles have announced the re- introduction of its Speed twin. The latest edition of the bike the 2019 Triumph Speed Twin from the Modern Classic range is a Bonnie through and through but more elegant and with more engaged ergonomics than the Bonneville T120 giving the classic retro a sporty twist in design and performance.
Triumph Speed twin has same engine as the Thruxton R model, a 1200 cc twin parallel motor, which makes 96 hp at 6750 rpm and 112 nm of torque at 4980 rpm. The materials used to make the new model are lighter and the engine itself drops two kilograms – quite an effective number when the permutations and combinations of performance to weight parameters are meddled with.
All these features come together to give the customer a nimbler ride with quicker acceleration and great handling. The original 1983 model changed the face of motorcycling and the new speed twin is following its legacy to be a game changing bike and is ready to set a new benchmark in the biking world.
The bike has around eighty custom made accessories making it more style savvy and the overall design is enough make the bike-rider partnership look good on the road. The accessories not only enhance the visuals but also the performance of the vehicle to make it more output oriented. It comes with a brushed Vance and Hines exhaust adorned with a black intake cover and pressed slump plate. It also flaunts a big curved fuel tank and circular LED head lamps, 64 mm LED indicators and knee pads. The bike also includes a machined headlight bezel, head bolt cover detailing and engine embellishers. It also has cnc-machined foot rests.
The chassis of the bike is made up of light weight aluminum. Its frame is of tubular steel with an aluminum cradle and the swing arm is twin sided and also made of aluminum. The front and rear wheels are made of cast aluminum alloy and are 17 x 3.5 inches and 17 x 5.0 inches respectively. It has 41 mm cartridge forks front suspension and the rear suspension comprises of twin shock absorbers with adjustable preload. The light weight seven spoke aluminum ally wheels and Pirelli Diablo Rosso 3 tyres make the riding more dynamic and add to the retro-modern look.
It also has multipoint sequential electronic fuel injection and a brushed 2 x 2 exhaust system with twin brushed silencers. It offers a wet, multi plate assistive clutch and a six speed manual transmission. The bike yields a mileage of 20.8 kmpl and runs a top speed of 180 kmph. It also complies with the EURO 4 standard norms.
Triumph Speed Twin has an analogue speedometer and tachometer, a clock, indicators for showing gear position and an electronic fuel gauge.The handle bars of the bike have mode and scroll buttons on either side and have a temperature controlled grip to prevent the rider’s hands from freezing during cold winter or mountain rides. Features like fuel consumption display, traction control status and a throttle mode display are available too. It is available in three colour options jet black, silver ice – storm grey and korosi Red – storm grey.

Other models of the company in the Indian market are Street Triple of the roadster range, priced at rupees Nineteen lakh nineteen thousand, it is a fierce streetfighter. Tiger 800 and Tiger 1200 adventure range prices start from rupees twelve lakhs and seventeen lakhs respectively. The modern classic range has bikes like the New Speed Twin, the New Scrambler 1200, the all new Street Twin and Street Scrambler 900, Bonneville T100 Range, Bonneville T120 Range, Bonneville Bobber, Thruxton 1200 R and the Bonneville Speed master. The prices of the bikes from the modern classic range start from rupees seven lakh forty five thousand of the all new Street Twin and go up till rupees twelve lakh fifteen thousand for the Thruxton 1200 R. A limited edition Thruxton TFC is also on the cards in the 2019 line up.
