Skincare mistakes one must not make

Don’t we all dream of having beautiful and flawless skin? And due to this desire, we end up spending big bucks on cosmetics. But, doesn’t your heartache when you feel that despite using the best products; still, your skin isn’t glowing the way you want it to? Well, it’s all because of the faulty skincare mistakes that we undertake.

Here are some of the skincare mistakes that are harming your face:

1. Exfoliating your face often

We all know that exfoliation is good. But as they say, excess of anything is wrong. There is no doubt that exfoliation helps you get rid of the dead skin, but over-exfoliation, on the other hand, deprives your face of the protective layer that, in turn, leads to ageing concerns. So, never exfoliate your skin more than twice a week.

2. Hitting the sack without removing makeup

I know makeup removing can be a tedious task, and we often tend to skip this part, but it’s doing your face more harm than good. This habit of yours leads to clogging of pores due to which acne and the oil content in the skin increases. Hence, it is always advisable to remove your makeup using cleansing oils or micellar water before you hit the bed.

3. Dabbing compact/loose powder to get rid of oil

We all want a shine-free face 24/7, and frankly, there’s no such magical product that can guarantee this wish of yours. After 3-4 hours, oil tends to appear on the face, and it’s natural. Now, one skincare habit that is harming is dabbing compact or loose powder on the already oily face to get rid of the excess oil. It does mattify the skin for some time, but in the long run, it clogs your pores. So, always use oil blotting sheets when you want to get rid of excess oil from your face. They will provide a long-lasting effect and have no harmful effects.

4. Ditching Sunscreen

We’re all guilty of ditching sunscreen on cloudy or rainy days or in my case, winter. However, this is not at all a great practice. Sunscreen is essential and should be a part of your daily beauty regime. Even if the weather is cloudy or it is winter, there are still harmful ultraviolet rays that can penetrate your skin and can harm it. Hence, it would help if you used it daily irrespective of the weather and climate conditions.

5. Changing your Pillow Covers

It is imperative to change your pillow covers after every 3-4 days. As we rest our head on the pillow, dust particles and pet hair are left on the pillow that most of the times lead to new blemishes and even acne on your face. Try to remember. I’m sure it must have happened with each one of you that you would have slept with a clean face but woke up to a small pimple. All thanks to those dust particles that are too tiny to be seen. So, wash the pillow covers after every 4-5 days. It is also advisable that one should switch to satin pillow covers as cotton pillow covers tend to traumatise the skin due to persistent pressing and can lead to collagen breakdown. Satin pillow covers, on the other hand, are soft and they minimise the permanent creases.

6. The right temperature of water while washing your face

It is essential to make sure that the water is of the right temperature when you wash your face. Excessive cold water can make your skin go completely dry, and it can make your skin devoid of the essential oils. On the other hand, excessively hot water can often result in rough and dry complexion. You should always use lukewarm water to wash your face.

7. Popping Pimples

We all hate pimples and want them to disappear from our face magically, but this doesn’t mean that we should start popping them. When we try to pop a pimple on our own, then there are chances that the infection can go deeper into the pore and it may lead to a severe problem. It is always advisable not to touch the pimple and let it fade away on its own.

Say Yes to Night Cream/Serum- It is very important to apply a night cream or a serum before going to sleep. This will give your skin a chance to revive and come off strong from all the harm that cosmetics had caused. Night cream or serum will help to look your face fresh as a daisy in the morning.

8. Get enough sleep

No product will work wonder on your face if you’re not having enough sleep. In the absence of proper sleep, the body starts generating free radicals that impact our face and leads to dark circles, puffy eyes, stretched lines on forehead and lip area. Hence, it is always advisable to have a good sound sleep so that your skin can regenerate itself and you’re ready to face the world with a glowing and relaxed face.

By taking care of these simple things, we can give ourselves the best gift – Clear and Youthful Skin.
