Movie Review: Total Dhamaal

Total Dhamaal” is the latest addition to the ‘Dhamaal’ series. We have our ‘BRO’ Ajay Devgn joining the gang this time. We also have the ‘DHAK DHAK’ girl Madhuri Dixit and our own ‘LAKHAN’ the ever-young Anil Kapoor coming together onscreen after 18 years, for this edition of ‘Dhamaal’. Sadly, Sanjay Dutt and Aashish Chaudhary are missing this time from the gang. The usual gang Ritesh Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi and Javed Jaffrey are still there along with a few comic giants adding to the equation this time.

Plot: Like both the previous ‘Dhamaals’, this time ‘Total Dhamaal’ is also about a wild money chase. We have all our cast members going through their own stories and obstacles while chasing the money. Guddu (Ajay Devgn) unknowingly steals money from a corrupt Police Commissioner. Later, he loses all the money, and someone hides it at a disguised location. They have taken in different dialects from all across India and used them wisely to fit their funny storyline.

Movie Review: Total Dhamaal is a senseless comedy. Please, it is one of the movies where you must keep your brain and logic at home. It is a light-hearted comedy, coupled with adventure and action sequences. It has a few nearly perfect comedy sequences and a few copied ones as well, but smartly copied. It is one of the Ajay Devgn’s movie where he will keep you entertained and laughing with all his silly jokes and expressions. There are a few breathtaking action sequences that slide perfectly into this comedy. Over the course of time, Ajay Devgn has learnt a lot from Rohit Shetty and that can be seen in this film. There are action sequences and flying cars like in all the Shetty’s movies. The famous 90’s duo, Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit show their perfect magic and chemistry on screen in this edition of Dhamaal. They are pretty much the same and have proven their comic mettle in this film. The old gang, Arshad Warsi and Javed Jaffrey reprise their role of ‘ADI’ and ‘MANAV’ again for this edition. They are as good as they were in the first and second installment of ‘Dhamaal’. Riteish Deshmukh along with Pitobash Tripathi are their usual hilarious self. Sanjay Mishra is as good as he has been with his perfectly timed witty and quirky jokes. Boman Irani, Johnny Lever and Mahesh Manjrekar add a new dimension of comedy to this movie. The VFX and cinematography have done a decent job keeping in mind that this is a comic flick. The animal sequence in this movie is to watch out for. They have done a great job handling animals and keeping their comic quotient respectable.

Our verdict: It is a senseless comedy film. Do not expect anything logical or rational from this film. It will keep you laughing throughout, with its funny actors, storyline and sequences. If you want to watch a funny – light-hearted – family movie, then this one is for you. If you have time on hand, then go and watch it. It could be the dose of your anti-depressant this weekend.
