Wajid Khan of music composer duo Sajid-Wajid passed away on Monday in Mumbai. The news was confirmed by Sonu Nigam from his official instagram account “My brother Wajid left us”. He was 42.

He was suffering from kidney infection and was on ventilator for the last four days as music composer Salim Merchant told PTI,

“He had multiple issues. He had a kidney issue and had a transplant a while ago. But recently he got to know about kidney infection… He was on the ventilator for the last four days, after his situation started getting worse. Kidney infection was the beginning and then he got critical.”

As per a Hindustan Times report, entertainment journalist Faridoon Shahryar reported that Sonu Nigam confirmed to him that Wajid Khan was infected with Coronavirus. “Sad News: Noted singer Sonu Nigam just confirmed to me that music composer Wajid Khan of Sajid-Wajid passed away a short while back. He was suffering fro Covid-19,” he tweeted.

The duo debuted from Salman Khan starrer 1998 rom-com ‘Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya’. And scored music for many other successful films like Dabangg franchisee, ‘Chori Chori’, ‘Wanted’, ‘Hello Brother’.

Film fraternity mourned the demise of the composer. Priyanka Chopra took it to twitter to pen a note “Terrible news. The one thing I will always remember is Wajid bhai’s laugh. Always smiling. Gone too soon. My condolences to his family and everyone grieving. Rest in peace my friend. You are in my thoughts and prayers”.

Sonam Kapoor uploaded a picture of him and captioned it “Rest in peace #wajidkhan”.

Salim Merchant also tweeted

“Devastated with the news of the passing away of my brother Wajid of Sajid-Wajid fame. May Allah give strength to the family. Safe travels bro @wajidkhan7 you’ve gone too soon. It’s huge loss to our fraternity. I’m shocked & broken”.
