At first glance you might not consider Delhi, the capital of India as a place to relax with your kids. But believe me, Delhi has a great deal to offer. Be it cuisines, entertainment and education, Delhi has it all for you and your kids. Visit either recreational cum educational places like the National Rail Museum, the National Science Centre  or places just to enjoy like Fun ‘N’ Food Village or Metro Walk in Rohini. Apart from this, you can also visit popular tourist places like Jantar Mantar, Lal Qila, Lotus Temple, Akshardham Mandir. Here is the list of selective places you can visit with your kids.

The National Rail Museum

Train enthusiasts for sure would like the National Rail Museum that is located in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. India’s rich rail heritage is on display in this Rail Museum. The National Rail Museum is spread over 10 acres and displays both working as well as static models of trains. Also antique photographs, signalling equipments and related literature is showcased for visitors. There is a saloon by the name ‘the Prince of Wales Saloon’. This was built in 1875 for members of royal families to travel. Apart from enjoying the history of these trains, enjoy a ride on the toy train at the National Rail Museum.

The National Science Centre
The National Science Centre is located close to Gate 1, Bhairon Road, Pragati Maidan. The objective of this Science Center is to popularize science especially among students. The National Science Centre has seven exhibition galleries – Our Science and Technology Heritage, Information Revolution, Human Biology, Pre-Historic Life, Fun Science, Emerging Technology and Water. Apart from this, working science exhibits in this centre are a great way to learn science.

Shankar’s International Doll Museum
Shankar’s International Doll Museum was set up by K. Shankar Pillai, a renowned political cartoonist. This Doll Museum is located on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi and is housed inside the building of the Children’s Book Trust. There are two sections of the museum- one displaying dolls from European countries and other one from Asian countries. This huge collection of dolls is really mesmerizing. The main attraction of the museum is the collection of 150 Indian dolls. Each doll and its costume were designed after thorough research, so as to give these dolls the closest possible resemblance to their respective regions.

Metro Walk in Rohini
Metro Walk in Rohini has many rides for kids, a boating area, gaming, as well as a shopping area. You can easily spend 5-6 hours there. Kids, especially those below 5 years enjoy the mini fountains in the Metro Walk, so do not forget to carry an extra change of clothes for them.

Children’s Park at India Gate
India Gate is one among the favorite picnic spots for Delhiites. Summer evenings are full of fun at India Gate. Close to India Gate is the Children’s Park. This park has a number of swings, slides and well-maintained lawns. Apart from this, the Children’s Park also has an amphitheater, roller slides, library, a jungle book theatre and library. Visit the Children’s Park at night to see beautiful illuminations. There is also an interesting aquarium inside the park.

Fun ‘N’ Food Village
Fun ‘N’ Food Village is an amusement park which is located at Kapashera border (Delhi-Gurgaon border) and has many recreational activities for kids. It is a complete world in itself providing fun, shopping and recreational experiences. Kids take pleasure in many rides like the Polo train, Mayur train, Caterpillar ride, Cat ride etc. Entertainment gets double at Fun ‘N’ Food village as you and your kids can enjoy the Water Park inside this amusement park as well. This Water Park has the largest water slide in India and the fastest in Asia.

Kids can also enjoy themselves in the Polo Amusement Park inside Fun ‘N’ Food Village. This is a new section in the amusement park that has a Bucket pool, Kiddies pool and Rainbow pool for kids. If you and your kids are fond of dance then head to the Disco floor to dance to your favorite song. You can even win awesome prizes. If you want to purchase some toys and gift items for your kids then visit the Mall Area inside the park.

When to visit Delhi? Both winter and summer temperatures are extreme in Delhi, so outstation visitors are recommended to visit Delhi either in the month of Feb-Mar or Oct-Nov.
