Chinese company looking to invest in Smart Cities project

A top drawer technology organization based out of China has expressed its desire to be a part of the Smart Cities project of the Indian Government. A prominent officer of the company has also stated that he will be coming to India in the coming week in order to advance the idea. Zhang Dong, the vice-president of Inspur Group, has stated that his organization is looking forward to be a part of the new vision put forward by the present Government in India. Inspur Group happens to be a leading name in hardware, which Zhang feels will mesh well with India’s capabilities in the domain of software and help create the ideal combination.

Zhang has further stated that the company has started a dialogue with the Indian Government for starting the partnership. He has also revealed that Inspur’s president has already been to India, a visit that has been reciprocated by the Indian Ambassador to China. Zhang himself is supposed to come to India for a period of one and a half month. During that period he would be meeting officers and see what chances are there of a possible collaboration.

Inspur Group also operates outside of China and has till date played a prominent role in taking China to the age of cloud computing from the era of mainframes. It also leads in the technology servers industry. China has itself created a number of smart cities and Zhang feels that experience could turn out to be very useful for India as well.

US eager to help with Smart Cities project

India and the US have recently been talking about areas where the latter could invest in the urban development sector of the earlier and one of the areas that have come up in the discussions is the urban development industry. Michael Froman, the trade representative from the US, has had a meeting with Venkaiah Naidu, Union Urban Development Minister. It has been learnt that during the discussion Naidu delved into how the project aims at providing improved urban life through better physical, economic and social infrastructure.

The project also aims at bringing about a major change in the way governance is being handled in the cities that are supposed to be targeted by this project. According to Naidu proper delivery of services and governance through electronic media are going to be the game changers in this respect. Five hundred urban habitations are supposed to come up in the days ahead and Naidu has informed Froman that proper provision of basic infrastructure will be taken care of in them. Incidentally, the US has stated that it would like to play a major role in the development of Allahabad, Ajmer and Vishakhapatnam as smart cities.

Government focus on Smart Cities as proper way to live

The Indian Government has stated that smart cities can play a crucial role in India grow in an inclusive way. It is expected that the cities, which are still in the offing, will improve the socio-economic infrastructure of the area and also create a lot of jobs where there will be opportunity for one and all. Facilities are going to be the cornerstone of the development one gets to see in the smart cities. For example, along the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) it is being stated that there will be arrangement for round the clock electricity and water.

Other key features of these areas are going to be cyber connectivity along with urban mobility that will be ensured by a public transport system that will have to be exceptional. The Indian Government is trying to get through several reforms in this regard so as to make sure that these processes could be brought on track in the shortest time possible. Shankar Agarwal, who is the Secretary of India’s Urban Development Ministry, has stated how Modi has instructed the ministry to do away with ancient and washed up systems as soon as possible.
