The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) recently released a new circular regarding the registration of students in class 9 and class 11 for their future Board exams. The entire registration process has to be migrated online from this year onwards. In fact, registration of students of class 9 and class 11 for 2019-2020 session has already begun from August 8, 2019 – almost two months earlier than usual.

Online submission of CBSE registration data shall close at 5:00 pm on the designated dates. So, there is no room for complacency, and schools need to handle the work in an efficient manner to avoid last minute glitches due to electricity or internet issues. Schools are allowed to submit the data in OASIS without any penalty till 30.9.2019, after which a penalty will be applicable.

Henceforth, every CBSE affiliated school has to present a list of students and their particulars in respect of classes 9, 10, 11 & 12 at the beginning of each academic session in the manner prescribed by the Board.

Step 1: Online registration process for schools

  – The CBSE Board exams in 2020 will be conducted via 16 regional offices. Each school will be assigned a code by its concerned regional office. The 16 regional offices are situated at Ajmer, Bengaluru, Prayagraj (Allahabad), Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Delhi East, Delhi West, Guwahati, Noida, Panchkula, Patna, Pune, and Thiruvananthapuram, as can be seen from the map. CBSE head office is in Delhi.

  – All such CBSE schools will then have to register themselves before the online registration submission. ‘Affiliation Number’ would be the user ID for each school, for which the regional office will issue a password. This will enable the school to log in and then change its password.

  – The entire registration process thereafter has to be completed through the online registration system only.

  – Schools must adhere to CBSE rules in teacher-student ratio, candidate registration and the number of class sections that are permitted.

  – Schools are required to send the signed copy of finalized Registration data of class 9/ class 11 to the concerned regional office. Any queries/ problems have to be communicated to the regional office.

  – Only those students whose names appear in the finalized Registration data will be allowed to appear for the February-April 2021 Board examinations for classes 10 and 12.

  – Schools are required to offer the subjects in adherence with the Scheme of Studies prescribed by the CBSE only.

  – Details of all students have to be submitted in one lot only for each fee slab. Partial submission of data or multiple submissions for the same slot will not be allowed.

  – Moreover, schools have to upload the photographs and signature of their bonafide students whose names figure in class 9 and class 11 list, before final submission.

  – Schools will conduct the examinations for class 9 and class 11 internally.

  – CBSE schools have to update student data on OASIS before finalizing registration.

Step 2: Registration process for students

  – CBSE registration details will be made available to the students and the parents in the form of a registration card by the school to confirm the correctness of details.

  – The List of Candidate (LOC) will be based on the data provided in registration record. Parents need to sign the LOC as a confirmation of the correctness of data.

  – The spelling of the name of student/mother/father/guardian should be correct and as per the Admission and Withdrawal Register maintained by the school. The full names should be used and not abbreviations or nicknames.

  – Date of Birth should be correct and as per Admission and Withdrawal Register maintained by the school.

  – Each student seeking admission in a class has to satisfy the requirement of age limit (minimum and maximum) as per Examination Bye-laws.

  – Subject combinations have to be absolutely correct and as per the Scheme of Studies of CBSE. Moreover, subject codes must be carefully filled. A welcome change is that students now have a choice of two levels in Mathematics – Mathematics Standard (041) and Mathematics Basic (241).

  – CBSE has agreed to provide several exemptions to disabled candidates as per ‘The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. Further information is available on http://cbse.nic.in/newsite/attach/CWSN%20April%202019.pdf.

  – Another norm of the CBSE is that from this year onwards students cannot update their information in the hard copy of CBSE Registration. Only the school will be responsible to upload the correct data of its students through the online process.

Parents/school should ensure correctness of data

Hence, schools should be very careful before finally uploading student data, subject choice and other important information. On the other hand, students, as well as their parents, must be equally vigilant while furnishing their details, photograph, signature, and choice of subject with codes.

Relief for maths phobia

Mathematics, the name itself scares the living daylights out of many students. Thankfully, CBSE has now made it easy for young people with maths phobia. Those students who are going to take CBSE class 10 examination in 2020 will have more options in mathematics. They can opt either for Mathematics Standard or Mathematics Basic. Those who don’t want to study mathematics further can appear for Mathematics Basic. Mathematics Standard is for those who want to study mathematics at a higher level.

Attendance matters

CBSE has also become very strict as far as attendance is concerned. The Board has issued another circular and made it mandatory for all schools to submit attendance sheet of students to the Board. It will be the final authority to take any decision regarding the shortage of attendance.
