Jawahar Lal Nehru, who was a leading figure in the Indian independence movement, became the first Prime Minister of free India. He was the longest serving Prime Minister of India and held office from 1947 to 1964. Fondly known as Chacha Nehru, his birthday, on November 14, is observed around the country as Children’s Day.
