Staff Selection Commission- Combined Graduate Level, which is to recruit staff to several posts in ministries, departments and organisations in Government of India is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission. SSC CGL provides an individual the opportunity to work with various departments and ministries. This exam takes place twice a year and every year nearly 30 to 40 lakh aspirants appear in the exam.

Exam Pattern: This exam takes place in 4 parts- Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 and Tier 4.

Tier 1 and Tier 2 : Both are online examinations in which objective multiple choice questions are to be answered online.

Tier 3: It is a descriptive paper which is to be written in English or Hindi. The mode of examination is pen and paper.

Tier 4: After clearing Tier 1 ,2 and 3 exam, the candidate has to take a computer proficiency test.

SSC CGL Tier 1 exam is an online mode of examination which contains 4 sections- General Awareness, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and English Language. It is an online exam of 60 minutes.

General Awareness: Science, Current Affairs, Sports, Books and Authors, Important Schemes launched by Government, People in News, Portfolios, General knowledge of Indian History and Geography.

Reasoning- Verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, venn diagrams, matrix, paper-folding method, analogy, coding-decoding, paper-folding method, words formation, direction and direction, blood relations, series.

English Language- Error spotting, sentence correction, one word substitution, spellings, fill in the blanks, phrases and idioms, reading comprehension.

Quantitive Aptitude- Interest, Average, Percentage, Ratio and Proportion, Problem on Ages, Data Interpretation, Speed, Distance and Time, Simplification, Time, Geometry, Trigonometry, Number System, Algebra, Time and Work, Mensuration, and Number system.

Tier 2-

In SSC CGL Tier 2 exam a total of 100 questions are asked in each paper, only in English Language and Comprehension 200 questions are asked.

Syllabus-

Quantitative Ability: Simplification, Interest, Average, Percentage, Ratio and Proportion, Problem on Ages, Data Interpretation, Data Sufficiency, Speed, Distance and Time, Simplification, Time, Geometry, Trigonometry, Number System, Algebra, Time and Work, Mensuration, and Number system.

English Language and Comprehension: Close Test, Para jumbles, Fill in the blanks, One-word substitution, Active passive voice, error spotting, sentence correction, one word substitution, spellings, fill in the blanks, phrases and idioms, reading comprehension, synonyms, antonyms.

General Studies (Finance and Economics): Finance and Accounting, Theory of Demand and Supply, Fundamental Principles, Basic concepts of Accounting, Financial Accounting, Self-Balancing Ledger, Error Spotting and Correction, Comptroller and Auditor General of India, Finance Commission, Comptroller and Auditor General of India.

Statistics: Index Number, Time Series Analysis, Analysis and Variance, Collection and Representation of Data, Measure of Central Tendency, Measure of Dispersion, Moments, Skewness and Kurtosis, Correlation and Regression, Random Variables, Sampling Theory.

Tier 3 –

It is a descriptive exam to test the written skills of the candidates. The exam carries 60 marks and is conducted offline. The time alloted for the exam is 60 minutes. This exam is specifically taken by candidates who are interested in “Statistical Investigator Grade II” & “Compiler” post.

Tier 4 –

Tier 4 exam is also not compulsory for all candidates. Only those candidates who are interested specifically for the post of Tax Assistant, CSS, MEA and Inspector need to appear for this exam. Special set of skills are required for this exam.

Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) – Those who want to appear for the post of Tax Assistant need to clear the DEST exam conducted by SSC. To clear the test, a candidate has to type 2000 words in 15 minutes in English on a computer.

Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) – To clear the exam for the post of CSS, MEA, Inspector (Central Excise), Inspector (Preventive Officer), Inspector (Examiner), one has to have the knowledge of three modules- Word processing, Spread sheets and Generation of slides.

Only Tier 1 and Tier 2 are compulsory to crack if one wants to clear the SSC CGL Exam.
