A Punjabi music video ‘Laung Laachi’ released on February 21, 2019, took the internet by storm. Right after it was published on YouTube, the song caught a lot of attention for its melodious tune and catchy beats. And soon, it became the most watched video in India by reaching 944 million views so far. Not only viewed, but this video has managed to get 2.7 million likes on YouTube as well. Not only India, but the video became quite popular globally.

As it happens, ‘Laung Laachi’ is a title track of the Indian Punjabi film ‘Laung Lachi’, as released on March 8, 2018. The title track was directed by Amberdeep Singh, starring one of the celebrated actors of Punjabi industry, Neeru Bajwa, Amberdeep Singh, who is also the director and Amninderpal Singh Virk aka Ammy Virk. Sang by Mannat Noor and written by Harmanjit, the song has a touch of retro with an amalgamation of typical Punjabi beats.

‘Ve tu Laung, ve main Laachi’ translates to ‘my beloved, you are like clove and I am a cardamom’ and the entire song is a narration by the female protagonist who sings to her lover that how she is hopelessly in love with him.

The song broke many records. It was so widely appreciated that a Bollywood film ‘Luka Chuppi’ (2019) adapted it and made a Hindi version of the same Punjabi song. However, it was not at par the original it has taken from as per the audience. In an interview with one of the leading entertainment network, Neeru Bajwa the lead in the music video said that the makers should have inserted the Punjabi version itself in the film as even Hindi listeners took the original version better.
