Winter is perhaps the best season in India because of all the charm associated with it. It is because of the wonderful weather in this season that we can indulge in our culinary fantasies to our heart’s content, and some intoxicating drinks. Also, is there anything better than shaking off the wintery chill with some good booze! If you love raising a toast with your friends and family, here is what to drink when the temperature dips.

Maple Old-Fashioned

In order to make Maple Old-Fashioned you need maple syrup (2 teaspoon), water (1 teaspoon), a dash of bitters, Bourbon whisky (1 oz), a cinnamon stick, an orange peel, and a Maraschino cherry. First, you need to mix maple syrup, bitters, and water in a glass and keep stirring them till they are blended properly. Then add the orange peel and ice, and then top it with the Bourbon. You can use the cinnamon stick and cherry to garnish the cocktail and then serve it.

Irish Mule

In order to make Irish Mule you need Irish whiskey (2 oz), ginger beer (6 oz), juice of a half lime, slices of lime, mint sprig for garnishing, and ice. First of all, fill a copper mug with ice and then pour lime juice and whiskey in the same. You can then top it with the ginger beer. Stir the combination to mix it and then use mint sprig and lime slices to garnish the same.

Indian Spiced Mulled Wine

In order to make Indian Spiced Mulled Wine, you need half a bottle of red wine, a cinnamon stick, a couple of Star anise, two cloves, a sliced orange, a sliced lemon, and 50 grams of brown sugar. First you should put all these ingredients in a saucepan and then simmer it gently for six to eight minutes. Don’t boil them. As a substitute you can also put the ingredients on a slow cooker and keep cooking on sim till they become warm. Normally, based on how your cooker operates, this could take a couple of hours. When you are serving it, do so in a heatproof glass.

Tom and Jerry

In order to make Tom and Jerry you need three eggs (separated), brandy (100 ml), golden rum (50 ml), caster sugar (eight bar spoons), and a pinch each of allspice, nutmeg, and cinnamon, alongwith hot milk. First of all, you need to keep beating the egg whites till they become stiff peaks. Then beat egg yolks, spices, sugar, and rum till they become watery. Now, divide the mixture into four heatproof mugs or glasses, add 25 ml shots of brandy to each mix, and then use hot milk to top the same. Now sprinkle the grated nutmeg on these.

Brandy Blazer

Making Brandy Blazer is rather simple as all you need is cognac (50 ml) and Grand Mariner or Amaretto (10 ml). First heat the cognac and the alcohol in a brandy balloon by placing it over a heatproof glass that is full of boiling water. Do this for 20 seconds and then use flamed orange zest to ignite the mixture again. Allow this to burn for a few seconds and then cool it off.

Some other options

Pumpkin Buttered Rum is one option definitely worth trying. The unique and the best aspect of this seasonal cocktail is pumpkin butter, which is perhaps the sole ingredient that can elevate the appeal of something as sinfully delicious as buttered rum. Hot Rum Cow – yet another favourite – normally features hot milk, aromatic bitters, and dark rum as its stars. It also gets a tad bit of sweetness from the cane sugar and vanilla extract added to it. Many aficionados say that this is like a warm milk punch that can’t get any better.

A lot of people like Tequila Hot Toddy as well. It is different from conventional margarita because it is hot, and also features a wedge of lime as well as some spices that are exclusive only to winter. One thing is for sure, if you have ever tasted this then you may never go back to drinking whisky hot toddy – a conventional choice – ever again. Hot Apple-Ginger Toddy is the only thing that is better than even Hot Apple Cider.

This toddy is a spiked version of Hot Apple Cider. It is much more delicious, which owes a lot to chopped ginger being added to the simmering cider. Bourbon Cough Syrup for Grownups might sound like medicine, but it definitely ain’t so! You need to have come down with cold in order to enjoy this cozy drink. A lot of people prefer Gin Hot Toddy as well. Normally, gin is something that people like to take during the summers, but all you need to change your mind is just one sip of this wonderful drink. It also has orange wedge that adds a citric taste and makes it the most favourite drink for this winter.
