The first time I tasted Nando’s was way back in 2008 in London and it immediately made me regret its absence in Delhi. India soon saw its first Nando’s in Bangalore in 2010, followed by restaurants in Chandigrah and Ludhiana (a smart move I’d say, considering the Punjabi pallet’s preference for all things chicken) and then finally, Delhi.

Each time I sink my teeth into flame grilled chicken at Nando’s, it amazes me how something as relatively tasteless as chicken can taste so wonderful when grilled over a live flame, versus an electric grill. Their magic Peri-Peri sauce only adds to the finger licking goodness that Nando’s chicken is.

Getting a table at Nando’s can be difficult. Though we’ve never had to wait for more than five minutes, we decided to visit Nando’s during Navratri, when the rush is relatively less (owing to the fact that most Hindu’s abstain from eating meat during this time).

The serving staff at Nando’s is extremely attentive and obliging and we were guided to the table we requested, which was right beside the window, giving us an ample view of Nelson Mandela Road below. We placed our order, which was delivered at our table within an impressive ten minutes. Ten on ten for their speed of service. We ordered their Portuguese Chicken Salad, which came loaded with fresh veggies like lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, onions, Peri Peri olives and of course their signature Peri Peri chicken which you can have done according to the spiciness you prefer (from mild to super hot). It was a bit disheartening to see that the olives were not part of the salad as promised on the menu. They were served to us separately in a little bowl when we reminded the staff about them. An 8 on 10 for the salad.

Apart from the salad, we ordered their one fourth flame grilled chicken with coleslaw and French fries on the side. The chicken was mildly spiced as ordered, yet full of flavour, juicy and grilled to perfection. A 10 on 10 for their Peri Peri flame grilled chicken.

A few suggestions would be to allow customers to choose their cuts of chicken. Their pieces of chicken are large, but I personally don’t like chicken breast and Nando’s gives me no choice in that matter. And so I’m supposed to eat the cut I am served, not entirely fair. It would also be nice if Nando’s is to get their restroom in order and soon. Their restroom has been under renovation for the longest time and it’s pretty inconvenient to step out of the restaurant and use the facilities in the mall.

Will I go back to Nando’s? I’ve been to Nando’s quite a few times already and I definitely see myself going back there again soon. Bon Apetite!
