CDS Exam- Exam Date, Syllabus, Eligibility

Every year, thousands of young men and women aspire to join the coveted defence forces of India. The government holds the CDS exams twice a year to select the best of the lot for the Army, Air Force and the Navy. The level of competition is tough and only the most determined and physically fit are able to make it through. Let us take you through the entire CDS exam process.

Last date to fill the form– September 3, 2018

Date of Examination– November 8, 2018

Eligibility For CDS

For Indian Military Academy (IMA)
Age: 20-25 years

Educational Qualification: Only males can apply who possess a graduation or equivalent degree.

For Officer’s Training Academy (OTA)

Age: 20-25 years

Educational Qualification: Both male and females graduates in any discipline from any recognised university can apply.

For Indian Naval Academy (INA)

Age: 20-24 years

Educational Qualification: Only males holding a engineering degree in any field can apply.

For Air Force Academy (AFA)

Age: 20-25 years

Educational Qualification: Only males who are graduates and have passed standard 12th in Science (with Physics and Maths) or have done Engineering from a recognised university are eligible.

CDS Exam Syllabus

The CDS exam has three parts- A written examination, an interview and a medical test.

Written examination consists of three sections, namely:

a. English: Basic understanding of English grammar, reading comprehension, error spotting, synonyms, antonyms, etc.

b. General Knowledge: Based on current events, basic chemistry, history, geography etc.

c. Mathematics: Arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, unitary method, elementary number theory, HCF and LCM, logarithms, geometry, mensuration and statistics.

Application Fee: For General and OBC candidates, the fees is 200. ( SC, ST and women candidates are exempted). Candidates can visit www.upsconline.nic.in to apply.

CDS Preparation Tips

Get the indepth knowledge of the syllabus and topics

  • Time Management is extremely important.
  • Stay updated of all the happenings around you.
  • Practice more and more by sorting topics.
  • Be positive and have confidence.
  • Try to practise as many mock tests as possible to get a hold on the exam pattern.
  • Refer previous year’s exam papers.
