Despite the fresh COVID-19 cases surge in the national capital, the Delhi government has given green signal to open all religious shrines, shopping malls, and restaurants from today. But the social distancing guidelines have to be maintained as issued by the federal government.

Borders to reopen from today

The Kejriwal government has also allowed the reopening of the state borders from today. However, Delhi CM is not ready to welcome the citizens across the nation to get the treatment in state-run hospitals. The residents of Delhi for the time being will only avail the treatment in Delhi’s hospital till the COVID-19 pandemic does not stop. But the hospitals run by the Centre in Delhi will have no such restriction, outside patients will be admitted to these hospitals.

Delhi’s ID proof is essential

However, it would be mandatory for the patients to show the ID proof or residential proof of Delhi for availing treatment in the Delhi government run-hospitals. The government hospital of Delhi will accept Aadhaar cards made before June 7, voter IDs, bank or post-office passbook, driving licence, income-tax return slips latest water or telephone bill and postal department’s post as proof of residence in Delhi.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced that the hospitals run by his government and private entities will only treat Delhiites during the coronavirus crisis while the city’s borders will be reopened from Monday.

A decision on doctors advice

The decision to reserve the treatment only for residents of Delhi was taken on the advice of a five-member committee of doctors. The doctors believed that by the end of the month, Delhi needs further 15,000 beds.

Lack of beds in hospitals

As the number of cases has been jumping at an alarming rate. The committee believes that the 9,000 beds which are currently possessed by the Delhi government will be taken over in three days if people of other states will be admitted in a large number for the treatment.

The Centre slammed the Delhi government’s move over reserving hospital beds only for the residents of Delhi. There is no need to show a passport or visa to come to Delhi. Citizens from all over the country have the right to come to the national capital for the treatment. Delhi government should not politicise this issue rather sensitivity is the demand of the time.
