Political Party: Amit Shah is a member of the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party).

Career: Before he became a member of the BJP, Shah was a member of ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) and student wing of RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh). He was 18 years old when he got a major position in the party. After that, he worked tirelessly for them till he was promoted to BJP in 1987.

Political Milestones: One of the earliest milestones in the political career of Amit Shah was when he became the Home Minister of Gujarat. He ascended to this post in 2002 and served there till 2014. He has also been an MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) in Gujarat from 1997 to 2012. From 1997 to 2012, his constituency was Sarkhej. From 2012 to 2017, he represented the Naranpura constituency. In fact, Shah won at Sarkhej in a by-election and after that he won from there in three straight elections – 1998, 2002, and 2007.

Amit Shah has also served as an MP (Member of Parliament) of the Rajya Sabha for Gujarat. He became an MP on August 19, 2017 and stayed in that position till May 29, 2019. He became a Lok Sabha MP from Gandhinagar constituency on May 23, 2019. He was also the President of the BJP, a post that came his way on July 9, 2014. On the same day, he also became the Chairperson of NDA (National Democratic Alliance). On May 30, 2019. he became the Union Minister of Home Affairs.

The electoral record of Amit Shah is also an envious one. From 1989, he has contested 28 elections and has never lost once till date. It needs to be noted over here that the seat was dissolved in 2008. During the Lok Sabha elections of 2014, he was put in charge of Uttar Pradesh, the biggest state in India and also politically the most crucial one. In that election, BJP along with its allies got a clean sweep and this was their best performance in that state. It won 73 out of the 80 seats over there. This was the reason why he became nationally prominent and became the President of BJP as well.

Since that point in 2014, Shah has worked to expand the organisation and get more members for the party. In fact, in the first couple of years under his stewardship, the BJP notched successive wins in the legislative elections of Maharashtra, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, and Jharkhand. In that period, it performed well in Assam as well, gaining new ground, followed by a resounding victory in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
