Place of Birth: He was born at Nakhu in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh

Parents: His father is Sri Rinchin Kharu while his mother is Smt. Chirai Rijiju
Spouse: Kiren is married to Joram Rina Rijiju

Political Party: He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)

Education: Kiren is an alumnus of Delhi University. He is a graduate from Hansraj college, Delhi University and has a degree in Law from the Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi.

Early Life: This youth leader was somehow always connected to politics. His father Shri Rinchin Kharu was the first protem speaker of Arunachal Pradesh to give pledge to the members of the first State assembly. Kiren Rijiju was a student leader and was quite active in social work since his school days. He was also one of the members of the youth and cultural team which participated in the Festival of India in USSR in 1987.

Career: Kiren Rijiju started his career as a young activist for social causes. At a very young age of 29 years, he became one of the lead members of Khadi and Village Industries Commission from 2000 to 2005. Also, as a youth leader, he has widely traveled many countries across the world as a member of the various Parliamentary delegations.

Political Milestones: Referred as the “voice of North East India”, Kiren Rijiju is the face of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the north east. In the early days of his career, he has served as a Member of Khadi and Village Industries Commission from 2000 to 2005.

He was first elected to the 14th Lok Sabha representing the constituency of Arunachal West in the Indian Parliament in 2004. In 2009, Rijiju was defeated by 1314 votes which is considered to be a very thin margin. However, he again assumed office for the second term under Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 30, 2019 from the same constituency as the member of 16th Lok Sabha, representing the Arunachal West Constituency.

In May 2019, Kiren Rijiju became the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports and Minister of State for Minority Affairs.
