Date of Birth: July 1, 1949

Place of Birth: Nellore District in Andhra Pradesh

Parents: He was born to Shri Rangaiah Naidu and Shrimati Ramanamma. His parents were agriculturists.

Spouse: He married Smt. Usha in 1971, and the couple was blessed with two children-a daughter and a son.

Political Party: Venkaiah Naidu belongs to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)

Education: He did his schooling from Zila Parshad High School at Nellore. Later, he got his Bachelor’s degree from Vellore, before pursuing Law with specialization in International Law from Andhra University College of Law, Visakhapatnam.

Career: Venkaiah Naidu had interest in politics since childhood. He had sympathy with the farming community and encouraged the slogan “Back to Villages”. But politics was his priority. Therefore, he joined ABVP (the students wing of BJP) as a student leader, while he was a student.

Political Milestones: Venkaiah Naidu got elected as an MLA for the first time from Udaygiri constituency (Andhra Pradesh) in 1978. Gradually, he became popular among the masses. He was the backbone of BJP in Andhra Pradesh at that time. In 1998, Venkaiah Naidu became the member of Rajya Sabha from Karnataka, for the first time. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha twice after that. He also served as the BJP spokesperson.

NDA’s victory in 1999 Indian general elections turned his political career. He was inducted in PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s cabinet as the Rural Development Minister. From 2002-2004, he served as the national president of BJP. Venkaiah Naidu also served as the Minister of Urban Development, Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, and Minister of Information and Broadcasting Minister in the first term of Narendra Modi government from May 26, 2014 onwards.

The University of Peace founded by the United Nations Organisation has honoured Vice president Venkaiah Naidu with the degree of ‘Doctor of Philosophy’ for his immense contribution in the sustainable development of India. The Dean of the University of Peace presented the honorary degree to Venkaiah Naidu in March 2019.
