Movie plot – “Fanney Khan”, the official remake of Belgian movie “Everybody’s Famous” is a satirical comedy. Directed by Atul Manjrekar, “Fanney Khan” is the story of Prashant Kumar (Anil Kapoor), a vocalist in an orchestra who had dreams of becoming a famous singer but due to circumstances was unable to be one. Addressed as “Fanney Khan” by his friends, Prashant tries to fulfill his dreams through his daughter Lata Sharma (Pihu Sand), who is named after the famous singer Lata Mangeshkar. She is frequently criticised for being overweight. He is a father who is strongly determined to put his daughter on the grand stage. Prashant wants to make his daughter the next singing sensation of India and will stop at nothing till he achieves his goal. Driven by his madness, Prashant has become so adamant that he is forced to leave his job. He kidnaps well-known soloist Baby Singh (Aishwarya Rai) with Adhir’s (Rajkumar Rao) help and later demands his daughter to be heard off in a music show lest he will kill Baby. The whole movie revolves around Prashant’s dream, Lata’s singing and Baby’s kidnapping.

Review – “Fanney Khan” is a movie full of comical scenes but the comedy is bogged down because of enormous melodrama. The film talks about strong issues like body- shaming it has a loose plot, the movie is unable to cast a spell upon the viewers. Though there is no backstory, it is the performances of characters which keep the boat afloat and prevents the movie from sinking.

Fanney Khan solely belongs to Anil Kapoor; he is the heart and soul of the movie. He has his usual electrifying energy throughout the movie and viewers are surely going to get carried away by his charm. Aishwarya Rai, despite given less time in the movie has done justice to her role. However, Rajkumar Rao who has delivered fabulous performances in the past is unable to show his talent, being given too dull a character in this movie. Newcomer Pihu Sand seems aligned with the character she portrays but doesn’t get highlighted due to the presence of considerable stars.

Our verdict– The movie is full till brim with brilliant performances by Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai, and Rajkumar Rao but it lacks a slight punch which was the demand of the plot. However, the movie has an emotional and convenient climax making it worth a watch. So, this weekend go, grab popcorns and have some good moments with the family.
