Most Haunted Places in Delhi

After shopping in Delhi’s glitzy malls and frequenting its cultural events, how about exploring the spooky side of this city. If you are unafraid of the dark and don’t mind showing off a bit of daredevilry, check these places out on the next new moon night:

Delhi Cantonment

Located in southwestern part of the city, Delhi Cantonment is said to be one of the most haunted places in Delhi. The commonest spooky thing that people have encountered over here is a middle-aged lady in white sari asking for lift and that too, well after 12 AM at night. People are often known to get really afraid and start racing ahead before they see – to their utter dismay – that the same lady is racing ahead of their vehicles without apparently breaking any sweat. In an area such as the cantonment, which always stays dark – especially at that time in the night – it can be quite an unnerving experience. It is said that the spirit in question is that of a lady who was murdered years back when she attempted to hitchhike to the Cantonment.

Dwarka Sector 9 Metro Station

The Dwarka Sector 9 station on Delhi Metro’s Blue Line  is also reputed to be one of the most eerie places in Delhi. Some say that problems normally happen at night during the last metro trip. Dwarka is a peaceful region by itself but such experiences have played their part in unsettling a lot of people. Quite often commuters experience a sudden burst of energy on them, which has no logical explanation. They have also seen a lady come out of thin air and then disappear in no time.

House Number W-3 at Greater Kailash

House Number W-3 at Greater Kailash is an abandoned house where an aged couple was brutally murdered in what used to be their residence. The saying goes that the murdered couple came back to reclaim their house after their death. Local people often state with horror how they have heard strange murmurs and voices from the house which lies in a desolate state now. One can also hear some muffled laughter every now and then. It is also said that the air around the house is dizzyingly heavy, a fact that points towards paranormal activity.

Jamali Kamali Tomb and Mosque

These structures are located at the Mehrauli Archaeological Park in New Delhi. These are basically the mausoleums of Kamali and Jamali, both of whom were Sufi saints from the sixteenth century. It is highly popular among people who love their history. However, it is quite eerie as well going by the stories of people who have heard voices calling out to them from the mazaar located inside the central tomb. People have also said that they always feel as if some invisible entity is following each and every move they make over here.

Sanjay Van

Located in the vicinity of Mehrauli and Vasant Kunj, this dense forest covers a distance of 10 km and lies in the heart of Delhi. It is also referred to as the lungs of the city. However, people who live nearby regard it as one of the most haunted places in the city. It is said that people who visit the forest for some reason or the other hear voices that emanate supposedly from the numerous mausoleums of Sufi saints in the forest.

Khooni Nadi

This river is located in Rohini. It is said to be a water body that has the capacity to draw people into it. It is supposed to be a river that will gobble up anyone who dares to venture in it.

Malcha Mahal

It is located on Bistdari Road near Sardar Patel Marg in the vicinity of Delhi Earth Station and is infamously reputed for the supernatural energy people are said to have felt at this place. It used to be a hunting lodge during the Tughlaq dynasty but is now in a dilapidated state and is also said to be haunted. It is located within dense forests. People who have tried to visit the place say every time they try to venture nearby they are obstructed by an invisible shield of energy that feels like a juggernaut.

Feroz Shah Kotla Fort

This fort is located at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi. It is said that djinns frequent this place. This fort was also built during the reign of Feroz Shah Tughlaq in the middle part of fourteenth century. The loneliness that you see at this monument is eye-catching. Every Thursday, visitors to the fort can buy incense sticks and other items from locals and offer them to the djinns, who are said to be uneasy and angry, in order to calm them down.

If you are not spooked enough already, you can have your fill of paranormal experiences at other haunted locations in Delhi some of which are listed below:
