The ultra-slim Intel Compute Stick has been launched in India. It is powered by an Intel Atom Quad-Core processor. Intel has launched two variants of the device in India providing users with a choice of two operating systems.

Linux and Windows Versions

  • Windows 8.1 version comes pre-installed with Bing and Windows 8.1. It has 32GB storage space and 2GB RAM
  • Linux version comes pre-installed with Ubuntu 14.04 operating system, 8GB storage space and 1GB RAM

Cost of Intel Stick

The Intel stick will be available on Flipkart. Windows 8.1 is priced at Rs. 12,999 on the site, but currently, is available for a special price of Rs. 9,999. The device will also be available through Intel Technology Providers across the country.

USP of Intel Stick

This plug-and-play Intel Compute Stick is a new category of computing devices that enables users to transform a display unit into a fully functioning entry-level computer. By simply plugging in the Intel Compute Stick any HDMI-enabled TV or monitor can become a basic computer. The device meets the consumers’ demand for a “more personal, flexible and cost-effective computing experience”. With processor-light applications, the Compute Stick serves the need of those people who are always on the move.

Recently, iBall also launched the iBall Splendo PC-On-Stick. This device is powered by the Intel Atom Quad-Core Processor that runs on Windows 8.1 and has a 2GB RAM with 32GB in-built memory. The iBall Stick is priced at Rs 8,999.

The launch of Compute Stick comes close on the heels of the release of other HDMI-based devices. Google Chromecast is one such example. This video-cum-content streaming device helps users in streaming content from their smartphones and computers to their TV.
