How to have the perfect new year?

new-year-2019

New Year 2019

First things first, a very Happy New Year! From 2018 to 2019, surely the 365 days would have been a roller coaster ride, a few ups coupled with a few downs. Give yourself a pat on the shoulder for having braved all the storms, and for your soaring spirits every time the storms gave way to sunshine.

With the new year, also comes a new sense of excitement and determination. A determination to “turn things around”, and to embark on the new journey with a fresh sense of zeal. So, how do you do that? Well, since you have been given a clean slate, use it instead of scribbling over the old one. It’s in our hands to make sure that we sail through the year glitch-free, except, of course, accidentally writing “2018” instead of “2019”.

A clean slate

One of the most popular New Year traditions is that of a New Year’s Resolution. Since the new year is supposed to be a new beginning, it makes sense to approach it with a fresh set of moves, right? That’s where the resolutions fit in. However, even if you are one of the people who doesn’t see the point of resolutions, the new year still remains a convenient new beginning.

Make sure that you try and leave as much of the previous year where it deserves to be- in the past. There is no use in carrying the ego, regret, grudge of 2018 into 2019. After all, that’s what the spirit of “new” year is, right? You don’t have to make corny resolutions to start this year right, just a hint of the right attitude would do. How can you do that?

Well, there are some simple ways to get started:

a. One day at a time: You don’t have to go for a “Bollywood level” makeover of your life. Real change comes gradually and settles itself firmly into our lives. Treat your life’s betterment as a project, taking things one day at a time.

b. Make it your year: Being altruistic is good, no doubt. However, make sure you get around to living for yourself this year. It is not selfish or wrong to always prioritise yourself over others, it’s healthy.

c. Time: Time is the ultimate currency you have. This year, make sure you spend yours well. Chuck the unproductive habits down the drain.

In a nutshell, while not everything is under our control, a significant share is. It’s called a “net” year for a reason, so try to treat it that way. Don’t carry forward the unnecessary baggage of 2018 into 2019. Today is only the first day of the year. How you live this one, might set your stepping stones for all the upcoming 364 more. Just remember, it’s an adventure ahead, and it’s going to be a wonderful ride.

Happy New Year! Let us know how you will be spending today (and 2019) in the comments below!
