Magenta Line: The Knowledge Corridor

Magenta Line Delhi

The Magenta Line of the Delhi Metro, enveloping the city’s arterial Outer Ring Road, is being lauded as the ‘knowledge corridor’ after it brings four major universities and colleges of the Delhi-National Capital Region on the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) network. This corridor is very beneficial for the student community as it would be relieving the students of the commuting pains by bringing Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU), Amity University (Noida), the Indian Institue of Technology (Delhi) and the Jamia Millia Islamia University on the magenta line.

The Jamia Milia Islamia University and Amity University (Noida) already have metro connectivity with the opening of the Botanical Garden -Kalkaji Mandir section in December last year. With the opening of the new corridor, Janakpuri West-Kalkaji Mandir, the students can easily commute to the Jawaharlal Nehru University and Indian Institute of Technology (Delhi) without wasting their time.

Previously, the students had to leave their homes much before their usual time as a lot of time was wasted in standing in long queues waiting for their turn to board the metros and then interchanging them from either jam-packed Rajiv Chowk or Central Secretariat. Now, the magenta line has made the life of students much easier by making these big universities and institutions available on the metro network. They can plan their day much efficiently without bothering about the excessive travelling time in the metro. The Magenta Line will come as a major benefit to students, especially when the admissions to undergraduate and graduate courses are about to begin by the end of the month.

Appropriate stations catering 4 universities

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) has a metro station on the magenta line by its own name.

  • The Munirka station on the Magenta Line is the nearest metro station to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
  • The Jamia Milia Islamia station caters to the Jamia Milia Islamia University.
  • The Amity University (Noida) has Okhla Bird Sanctuary as an adjoining station.
