Uddhav welcomes PM at Pune airport

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray received Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Pune airport today on Friday. Uddhav specially went to Pune from Mumbai to welcome the prime minister. Narendra Modi is in Pune ahead of the two-day national conference of directors-general and inspectors general of police.

Unnao rape victim passes away

The 23-year old Unnao gang-rape survivor-woman, who was stabbed and set on fire by men accused of raping her breathed her last in Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital at 11.40 pm on Friday. Her body is likely to be taken to her home for the last rites. The 23-year old Unnao rape victim had sustained 90 per cent burn and she was fighting for her life. She had been beaten, stabbed and then set on fire by five men on Thursday. The incident took place while the victim was going to a Rae Bareli court to attend the hearing of the rape case. The prime accused Shubham Trivedi was released on bail on 30 November 2019, since then he had been threatening and following the Unnao rape victim.

India demolish West Indies in the first T20I

A breathtaking 50-ball 94 from captain Virat Kohli helped the men in blue to a thundering six-wicket victory over the West Indies in the first T20I in Hyderabad. The visiting side scored a mammoth total 207 in 20 overs. But Kohli and his troops chased 208 quite easily. KL Rahul also played a gem of an inning and scored 62 runs.

All Four Hyderabad rape accused shot dead in police encounter

The Telangana police killed all the four accused in the Hyderabad veterinarian’s rape and murder case in a purported exchange of fire on Friday morning. When the four accused were taken to the crime spot for the reconstruction of the case, they snatched weapons from the police and fired at them, in retaliation police also fired back and killed all the four. The rape of the 26 years old veterinary doctor in Hyderabad had triggered national outrage across the country similar to the Nirbhaya case in Delhi. Parliamentarians also raised their voices and expressed their anguish on Monday. Meanwhile, Union Minister Rajnath Singh said that the Centre is “ready for discussions to curb such crimes”.

BJP wants apology from Congress MPs over threatening behaviour against Irani

The Central government on Friday demanded an apology from the two Lok Sabha MPs of the Congress for their “threatening behaviour” against the Union Minister Smriti Irani, while she was speaking in the Lok Sabha over the recent incessant rape in the country. The House was adjourned for the day because the ruling party members demanded an apology from them.

Union govt suggests President reject mercy plea of Nirbhaya’s rapists

The Union Home Ministry has sent a recommendation to the President Ram Nath Kovind to reject the mercy petition filed by one of the convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya rape and murder case. The killing of the four accused by Hyderabad police in the Vet doctor’s rape and murder case made the Nirbhaya’s family emotional. Her father said the family has been awaiting justice since 2012.

Onions make people teary

The government is expected to import from next week at least 35,000 tonnes of onions to fulfil the shortage of onions across the country. The price of onions is soaring, it has touched Rs 165 a kg in Panaji on Thursday.
