Kejriwal promises Delhiites onions at Rs 24/kg
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has expressed concern over the soaring onion prices. However, he assured the Delhiites to make onions available at Rs 24 per kg, through mobile vans. Onions are currently being sold @ 70/80 per kg across the country in the open market, due to the crop getting impacted by excessive rain.
Ticketless travel in DTC buses to attract steep fine
Beware! Don’t forget to buy the ticket in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) or cluster scheme buses. If caught without a ticket, then be ready to pay a hefty fine of Rs 1500, which is compoundable to Rs. 500. At this moment, fine for travelling without ticket in DTC buses is Rs 200. This increased fine is prescribed by the newly amended Motor Vehicles Act. This Act is implemented in the capital from September 1, but the Delhi government is yet to notify it.
Maruti expects rise in its car sales in September
Auto major Maruti Suzuki India Ltd is optimistic that sales of its cars in September will increase manifold in comparison to the previous months. This was stated by Maruti Suzuki chairman RC Bhargava. In August, Maruti sales dipped 34.3 percent, which marked the worst slowdown in the automobile sector in recent history.

Students not eager to go for research

Dengue hovers in Telangana
Telangana is in the grip of dengue this year. Overall 6,183 cases of this vector-borne disease have been detected from January to September 20. This number has surpassed all previous records. Some of the urban districts of the state such as Hyderabad, Rangareddy, and Medchal are also badly affected. So much so that hospitals have no beds to accommodate new patients.
Madhav Apte passes away
Yesteryears opening batsman for Team India, Madhav Apte, breathed his last at the Breach Candy Hospital on Monday morning. He played seven Test matches in the 1950s for India and scored 542 runs, including an unbeaten 163 against the West Indies at Queens Park Oval Test in 1953. He was 86 years old.
Ex-BSF constable keen to fight against Khattar
Former BSF constable Tej Bahadur Yadav on Monday expressed his willingness to fight against Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar from Karnal assembly segment in the upcoming assembly polls in Haryana scheduled for October 21. Yadav was terminated from his job in 2017 after he posted a video on social media unveiling the poor quality of food served to security personnel.
Govt to clip central govt employees’ retirement age
The government plans to curtail the Central Government employees period of service. Employees who have completed 33 years of service or reached 60 years of age, whichever is earlier, will be compulsorily retired. At present, the retirement age of Central Government employees is 60 years, while professors and doctors work until 65 years of age. This is being contemplated to open job opportunities for the younger generation.
Doctors to turn towards rural areas: Yogi Adityanath
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath issued a circular on Monday that every MBBS graduate of government medical colleges has to spend and work in villages for two years. Doctors who have completed their MD and MS too have to work in rural areas for one year. The idea is to strengthen public health delivery in rural areas.

RBI intervenes to save PMC Bank
PMC Bank is in trouble. RBI has an appointed an administrator and instructed the bank to not do any business for 6 months. Additionally, limits have been put in place on how much can be withdrawn from each saving or current account, that limit was set at Rs 1,000/- per account which has been raised to Rs 10,000/- per account after small traders and small depositors started gathering outside bank branches in great number. It looks like the bank has come under pressure after default by HDIL.
Delhi govt on co-education spree
Delhi government is planning to scrap all-girls’ and all-boys’ schools and convert them into co-education schools, and evening shift schools into general shift schools. SC asks Kerala government to pay Rs 25 lakh compensation to flat owners
The Supreme Court has ordered the Kerala government to pay a compensation of Rs. 25 lakhs within four weeks to the owners of 343 flats in four illegally constructed buildings in Kochi. These buildings have to be demolished, and as per the apex court order, the demolition process should be completed within 138 days.
Govt scraps class 8 pass requirement to drive commercial vehicles
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a circular to scrap the minimum educational qualification of Class 8 for obtaining a commercial licence. In light of the scarcity of skilled drivers, this requirement will not be essential for getting a licence to drive a transport vehicle.
