PM Modi Sticks to Allotted Time, delivers 100% at UNGA

It was Prime Minister Modi’s second appearance at the UNGA. Of course it was about “Terroristan” next door without naming it as such or by its official name, it was about much more too. PM Modi made sure that all the buzzwords like Peace, Environment, Health and Welfare were heard loud and clear.  PM Modi talked about bringing the world together under the phrase “global unity” to fight terror.

Green crackers in Delhi-NCR with logo and QR code on boxes

Diwali, the festival of lights, is approaching and the talk of ‘green’ crackers is in the air once again. This year, a special logo and QR code will be printed on the boxes of green crackers. People can easily recognise low-emission and eco-friendly crackers, which will be available in Delhi-NCR. Hopefully, this will help to keep the pollution in check post-Diwali festivities.

Kejriwal promises Delhiites onions at Rs 24/kg

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has expressed concern over the soaring onion prices. However, he assured the Delhiites to make onions available at Rs 24 per kg, through mobile vans. Onions are currently being sold @ 70/80 per kg across the country in the open market, due to the crop getting impacted by excessive rain.

Ticketless travel in DTC buses to attract steep fine

Beware! Don’t forget to buy the ticket in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) or cluster scheme buses. If caught without a ticket, then be ready to pay a hefty fine of Rs 1500, which is compoundable to Rs. 500. At this moment, fine for travelling without ticket in DTC buses is Rs 200. This increased fine is prescribed by the newly amended Motor Vehicles Act. This Act is implemented in the capital from September 1, but the Delhi government is yet to notify it.

Maruti expects rise in its car sales in September

Auto major Maruti Suzuki India Ltd is optimistic that sales of its cars in September will increase manifold in comparison to the previous months. This was stated by Maruti Suzuki chairman RC Bhargava. In August, Maruti sales dipped 34.3 percent, which marked the worst slowdown in the automobile sector in recent history.

Gadkari stresses on electric vehicles

Road transport minister Nitin Gadkari assured on Monday that petrol and diesel vehicles will not be banned. However, the trend of electric vehicles has picked up momentum and within two years all buses in India would be electric.

Sindhu’s coach resigns

Ace shuttler PV Sindhu’s Korean coach and mentor Kim Ji Hyun has resigned due to her husband’s illness. The Korean coach was attached with Sindhu for the last four months and played a decisive role in the improvement of Sindhu’s overall game. She has not assured of her comeback again.

Students not eager to go for research

In India, the trend of higher degrees like Ph.D has not picked up momentum. Therefore, only 2.5% of colleges run Ph.D programmes across the country. Science students are far ahead in the enrolment for research, in comparison to humanities. This fact was disclosed in the All India Survey of Higher Education (AISHE) by the HRD Ministry.

Dengue hovers in Telangana

Telangana is in the grip of dengue this year. Overall 6,183 cases of this vector-borne disease have been detected from January to September 20. This number has surpassed all previous records. Some of the urban districts of the state such as Hyderabad, Rangareddy, and Medchal are also badly affected. So much so that hospitals have no beds to accommodate new patients.

Madhav Apte passes away

Yesteryears opening batsman for Team India, Madhav Apte, breathed his last at the Breach Candy Hospital on Monday morning. He played seven Test matches in the 1950s for India and scored 542 runs, including an unbeaten 163 against the West Indies at Queens Park Oval Test in 1953. He was 86 years old.

Ex-BSF constable keen to fight against Khattar

Former BSF constable Tej Bahadur Yadav on Monday expressed his willingness to fight against Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar from Karnal assembly segment in the upcoming assembly polls in Haryana scheduled for October 21. Yadav was terminated from his job in 2017 after he posted a video on social media unveiling the poor quality of food served to security personnel.

Govt to clip central govt employees’ retirement age

The government plans to curtail the Central Government employees period of service. Employees who have completed 33 years of service or reached 60 years of age, whichever is earlier, will be compulsorily retired. At present, the retirement age of Central Government employees is 60 years, while professors and doctors work until 65 years of age. This is being contemplated to open job opportunities for the younger generation.

Doctors to turn towards rural areas: Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath issued a circular on Monday that every MBBS graduate of government medical colleges has to spend and work in villages for two years. Doctors who have completed their MD and MS too have to work in rural areas for one year. The idea is to strengthen public health delivery in rural areas.

Sonakshi on receiving end for not answering Ramayana question

Sunil Bharala, who holds a ministerial rank position in Uttar Pradesh, has criticised Bollywood actor Sonakshi Sinha, for not answering a question on Ramayana in Amitabh Bachchan’s famous quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ last week. As per reports, Bharala dubbed her a ‘Dhan Pashu’ (money animal).

RBI intervenes to save PMC Bank

PMC Bank is in trouble. RBI has an appointed an administrator and instructed the bank to not do any business for 6 months. Additionally, limits have been put in place on how much can be withdrawn from each saving or current account, that limit was set at Rs 1,000/- per account which has been raised to Rs 10,000/- per account after small traders and small depositors started gathering outside bank branches in great number. It looks like the bank has come under pressure after default by HDIL.

Delhi govt on co-education spree

Delhi government is planning to scrap all-girls’ and all-boys’ schools and convert them into co-education schools, and evening shift schools into general shift schools. The examination branch of the Directorate of Education (DoE) on Monday asked the officials to prepare three plans to implement this scheme from July 2020.

Remember only ‘112’ for emergency assistance

Taking the cue from some other countries, Delhi Police on Wednesday launched one emergency helpline number ‘112’ for availing many emergency services. Now there is no need to dial 100, 101, or 102 for immediate help. This system was upgraded by the Delhi Police control room to replace old technology. If anyone dials 100, 101 or 102 it would be transferred to the new emergency number ‘112’.

Karnataka by-polls deferred

The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday told the Supreme Court, it will defer the by-polls in 15 assembly seats in Karnataka, which were scheduled for October 21. This is because the hearing of the petitions challenging the disqualification of the rebel lawmakers is still pending in the apex court.

Hyderabad recorded high amount of rain in September, which has broken all 100 year records. The city in this month has already received 110 mm of rain, as per data revealed by private weather forecasting service Skymet.

Hero Electric mulls to invest Rs 700 crore in south India

Hero Electric has been planning a greenfield plant in south India, and the company is determined to spend around Rs 700 crore to increase its production. A senior company official said, “We have a production unit at Ludhiana, Punjab. Expansion can happen there or in other locations. We may opt for a greenfield second plant somewhere in south India.”

SC asks Kerala government to pay Rs 25 lakh compensation to flat owners

The Supreme Court has ordered the Kerala government to pay a compensation of Rs. 25 lakhs within four weeks to the owners of 343 flats in four illegally constructed buildings in Kochi. These buildings have to be demolished, and as per the apex court order, the demolition process should be completed within 138 days.

Govt scraps class 8 pass requirement to drive commercial vehicles

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a circular to scrap the minimum educational qualification of Class 8 for obtaining a commercial licence. In light of the scarcity of skilled drivers, this requirement will not be essential for getting a licence to drive a transport vehicle.
