The UP Board Intermediate results 2014 (Class 12th results 2014) have been declared by the Uttar Pradesh Education Department on Sunday, May 25. Like many other results of this year, the girls have outshined the boys.

Some facts about UP Board 10+2 Results 2014

  • Total number of students appeared in the examination – 31,27,066
  • Number of students who cleared the exam – 28.10 lakh
  • Number of students registered from Lucknow – 53,443
  • Overall pass percentage in 2014 – 92.21%
  • Girls’ pass percentage – 95.31%
  • Boys’ pass percentage – 89.81%
  • Best performing district in terms of pass percentage – Basti (97.41), Sultanpur (96.56) and Ambedkar Nagar (96.53)
  • Worst performing district in terms of pass percentage – Ghazipur (85.58)
  • Total Examination Centers: 10,546

But overall the pass percentage this year has dropped by 0.47% as compared with last year because of fall in the percentage of girls clearing the exam. Also, a minor increase in the pass percentage of boys, i.e., 0.02%, has been observed. The quality of education is a matter of concern in India and same can be seen in the UP Board Intermediate result 2014 as the percentage of students securing first division has dropped by 5.56%. Also there is a fall in the percentage of students securing second division by 0.01%. On the other hand percentage of students securing third division has increased by 1.62%.

In Gautam Buddha Nagar 91.84% of the students who gave 10+2 exam cleared it. Out of top 20 positions, 17 were grabbed by girls. 5,499 bagged first division, 7,894 bagged second division and 1,262 bagged third division.

The 10+2 exam by the UP Board was conducted from March 3 to April 4, 2014. The examination was conducted in two shifts – morning shift from 7:30 am to 10:45 am, and evening shift from 2 pm to 5:15 pm.

Brief historical background

An act of the United Provinces Legislative Council assisted in setting up Uttar Pradesh Board of High School and Intermediate Education in 1921 at Allahabad. The first examination by the Board was conducted in 1923. It was the first Board in India to adopt the 10+2 examination pattern. Not only this, but the UP Board also enjoys the status of being the largest examining body in the World. Merrut, Varanasi, Bareily and Allahabad are the four Regional Offices of the Board. Some of the major functions of the UP board are: prescribing courses and textbooks for High School and Intermediate School, conducting examination for high and intermediate level, and granting recognition to other aspiring schools.
