Framing the story of a novel on the silver screen has been one of the favorite options for the Indian Filmmakers. But to turn a novel into a full-fledged film with precision requires a great effort and dexterity. 2 States, the story of the popular novelist Chetan Bhagat, reaches out to the silver screen this week. When Chetan Bhagat must have decided to pen down 2 States, he would have never thought that his own love story could become such a big success. Even though the magic of the novel cannot be totally witnessed in a film, Abhishek Varman leaves no stone unturned in making the movie significantly watchable.

Plot2 States narrates the story of Krish and Ananya who, in spite of belonging to two different castes, fall in love with each other. But their real trammel begins when they have to convince their families, who are totally against the idea of inter-caste marriages.

PerformancesArjun Kapoor is one star-kid who has been constantly delivering stellar performances right from the start. He breaks away from his angry boy image to look like a sweet-lovable boy-next-door and what we see is a piece of good work once again.

Alia Bhatt is something exceptional and its very much visible in her performances. She looks so adorable and pretty that it actually becomes hard to take your eyes off her! This girl definitely has the potential of becoming one of the finest actresses of Bollywood.

Amrita Singh, as the typical Punjabi saas, is dynamically fabulous. But the characters of Revathy, Shiv Subramanyam and Ronit Roy have not been correctly elucidated. Nonetheless, all of them perform their parts well.

The sizzling chemistry between Alia and Arjun definitely needs a hooting!

MusicThough the album has been composed by the talented trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, this time the magic of their ability falls short. The compositions are just fine enough to be heard once. But like everything in the world, this too has some exceptions. The songs Locha e-ulfat and Mast Malang are definitely the best two from the album.

What’s GoodAlmost everything! An entertaining feel-good movie, with a perfect touch of realism.

What’s BadThe slow pace and long length of the movie is little drawback of the film. The music album is an average one with no exceptional track.

Inter-caste marriage is still a hard row to hoe specially in a country like India where casteism has prevailed ever since centuries. But to overcome these boundaries and formulating a bond of love is something that not everybody can do. Chetan Bhagat’s 2 States, which has been intelligently transformed into an entertaining film, is a beautiful liaison of this understanding. The romantic connect between Alia and Arjun makes it even better!

VerdictWitness the perfect union of two states this weekend!
