About Movie Commando 2

The movie is right up there on government’s favourite topic – Black Money. An out-and-out action thriller with the government unleashing a team of hard-headed mavericks led by an ex-Army Commando, who take on the onerous task of going after black money. The team goes overseas to Malaysia to bring back the black money kingpin and his wife, who have been arrested by the Malaysian police. And now starts the action-packed journey.

With Commando 2, producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah has once again shown his penchant for action thrillers. Commando 2 has Vidyut Jamwal doing was he does best – high octane action, and pretty much fits into the one-man army roles.

Vidyut is supported by Adah Sharma and Esha Gupta, who match up as the odd ones, with another short-fuse maverick police inspector played by Freddy Daruwala.

Plot

The director of the investigation division of the ‘Central Board of Direct Taxes’, Abhaya Sharma – played by Shefali Shah, gets information that Vicky Chaddha – played by Anoop Thakur Singh, the kingpin behind black money laundering and his wife Maria – played by Esha Gupta, have been held by the Malaysia Police.

She sends in a team comprising ex-Army officer Captain Karanvir Singh Dogra – played by Vidyut Jamwal; ACP Bakhtawar – played by Freddy Daruwala; Bhavna Reddy, another short-fuse action believing cop – played by Adah Sharma, and Zafar, a cyber cell IT geek.

The team reaches Malaysia and now begins the twists and turns of an action pot-boiler as the team faces the wily Vicky Chaddha.

Performances

The movie is high on action and small on story. The plot is very predictable and on the usual Bollywood lines. It’s a bit of an enigma that Bollywood seems to be committed to making action films that have little story and acting talent depth. That seems to be reserved for movies of other genres.

There is absolutely no reason why Bollywood cannot come out with good action blended with an equally strong plot and dialogues. Commando 2 will be fine for a single visit for action lovers who seek little else. All other classes of moviegoers can safely give this movie a miss.

That said, Vidyut Jamwal does fill justice to action. The movie is Jamwal’s all the way with Adah Sharma and Esha Gupta just filling in to support him. Freddy Daruwala as ACP Bakhtawar does his best, but in the absence of meaty dialogue, or storyline, he remains in Vidyut’s shadow.

Commando 2 Music

The movie has seven songs with one song Tere Dil Mein in original and club mix, while Seedha Sadha comes in original and a reprise version. The tile track, Commando also has an English version.

Hare Krishna Hare Ram has a nice foot tapping beat to it and will find its way on dance floors, while Tere Dil Mein is a love song that has been beautifully picturised.

What’s Good?

The action sequences and the locations, both stand out.

What’s Bad?

Lack of intrigue, suspense and storyline, besides very average dialogue. The film could have taken a leaf out of films like “A Wednesday”, “Special 26”, or “Gangster”.

Verdict

If you are a hardcore action buff and a Vidyut Jamwal fan then this movie is for you. Others are well advised to try other weekend options.
