We’re a country of movie lovers. Bollywood mania may well be our national religion. It is not a surprise then, that Hindi film dialogues have become part of our lives. So here’s our collection of iconic, evergreen popular dialogues from Bollywood movies that have been part of our lives, some of them living on for decades now –

Devdas (1955)

“Kaun kambakht bardaasht karne ko peeta hai? Main toh peeta hoon ke bas saans le saku” – Dilip Kumar

Thus spake every alcoholic. But our own Dilip Kumar said it first and it became one of the most famous Bollywood dialogues.

 Mother India (1957)

Tu mujhe nahin maar sakti, tu meri maa hai” – Sunil Dutt

Mein pehle ek aurat hoon” – Nargis.

If only every woman in our country thought like Mother India!

Mughal-e-Azam (1960)

Anarkali, salim ki mohabbat tumhe marne nahin degi aur hum tumhe jeene nahin denge”- Prithviraj Kapoor

Anand (1970)

Arey o baabumoshai! Hum sab rangmanch ki kathputliyan hain jinki dor uparwale ki ungliyon se bandhi hui hai. kab kaun uthega koi nahin bata sakta” – Rajesh Khanna.

Amar Prem (1971)

Pushpa, I hate tears” – Rajesh Khanna

Well, so do we, but this movie did make us cry. Unforgettable of all the famous Bollywood dialogues.

 Pakeezah (1972)

Aapke paon dekhe, bahut haseen hai. inhe zameen par mat utariyega, maile ho jayenge”- Raj Kumar.

Asking a courtesan and a dancer to take care of her feet – the irony and romance had women swooning!

Yaddon ki Baraat (1973)

Kutte, kameene, main tera khoon pee jaoonga” – Dharmendra

Bobby (1973)

Koi pyaar kare toh tumse kare, tum jaise ho waise kare. Koi tumko badal kar pyaar kare toh woh pyaar nahin, sauda hai” – Rishi Kapoor

The sollah baras ki romance that drove the country crazy. An incredibly nice one from the famous Bollywood.

Deewar (1975)

“Main aaj bhi phenke hue paise nahin uthata” – Amitabh Bachchan

Aaj mere paas gaadi hai, bungla hai, paisa hai… tumhare paas kya hai?” – Amitabh Bachchan.

Mere paas, mere paas maa hai” – Shashi Kapoor.

Kalicharan (1976)

Saara sheher mujhe lion ke naamse jaanta hai” – Ajit

So what if he pronounced it ‘loin’? Ajit was Mona darling’s favourite. And ours too.

Don (1978)

Don ka intezaar toh baarah mulko ki police kar rahi hai, but Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi, namumkin hai” – Amitabh Bachchan

AB – the original Don. The remakes didn’t quite match up, did they?

Mr. India (1987)

Mogambo khush hua” – Amrish Puri

The villain who set the benchmark…

Shahenshah (1988)

Rishte mein to hum tumhare baap lagte hain, naam hai Shahenshah” – Amitabh Bachchan

He’s still the baap of all tinsel town heroes.
