The much awaited, much sensationalized movie of the year, Gunday, finally finds its way to the theatres today! And with no surprise, we whole-heatedly welcome the first blockbuster of the year. Ali Abbas Zafar, known for his brilliant work in Mere Brother ki Dulhan, meshes a very youthful directorial with Gunday. Produced under the banner of Yash Raj Films, the movie is based in the 70s and celebrates the bond of friendship.

PlotGunday narrates the story of two young, innocent boys racked by the tragic creation of Bangladesh, turn into gundas! Thriving as coal mafias, they begin leading a perfect life till the time the two of them fall for the same girl. Will this mutual feeling of love for a girl threaten their unbreakable bond of friendship or will their brotherly love overshadow the love life, this is what Gunday is written about!

Performances:The young talent is blooming high in spirits! The young lads of bollywood are not only enthusiastic but also immensely talented. In Gunday, we see the brighter future of Indian cinema!

The heartthrobs of the younger generation, Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor, are the new Jai and Veeru of bollywood. The two of them not only look amazingly dashing but are equally intense in their performance. The two lads are effortlessly brilliant and brimming with zeal and enthusiasm in their work. They are, undoubtedly the stars of tomorrow!

Priyanka Chopra looks pretty and elegant in a desi avatar. Having seen her perform such brilliantly in Barfi, nothing less than that seems to impress the audience now. Perhaps, it was because the film belongs to the boys this time, which is why the actress is merely left as bone of contention.

Irrfan Khan is as good as he always is. Even in a short screen space, he manages to make his presence felt with a spark.

MusicBeing a Yash Raj production, having high hopes with the soundtrack was very obvious. The music of Gunday is surprisingly versatile and fresh on content. Each and every song is high in energy and contours a unique appeal. This is one of the best albums of this year.

What’s GoodA graceful execution mastered by a phenomenal screenplay makes a predictably clichéd story look interesting. The two boys are an absolute treat to the eyes and make every bit of the movie worth watching! Adding to the film’s entertainment quotient are the beautifully written songs that make up for a soulful music score.

What’s BadThe terribly clichéd plot of the film takes away its novelty. The melodramatic love triangle between the leads is way too tacky.

In spite of an overused plot bound with the clichés of a 70s film, Gunday manages to impress the audience with an impressive execution and a star-cast t hat looks irresistibly hot! The best thing about the film is that it is a light watch entertainer. You can neither call it a typical bollywood masala film nor a rom-com, there is, indeed, something fresh about the film. And to top it all, Gunday gives us the two superstars of the future, Ranveer and Arjun. Watching the film is definitely recommended!

VerdictRanveer and Arjun are the most lovable gundas (goons) that I have ever seen!
