About nineteen years back, a film by the Yash Raj Banner redefined the notion of romance in Bollywood! The film was relished by the audience to such an extent that it became a fairy-tale love story for all the young hearts. It was none other than the evergreen love saga, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge! Dharma Productions was probably aware of the fact that remaking a film like DDLJ could have been miffed off as sheer stupidity and so they decided to cleverly infuse the DDLJ effect in their own film. Humpty Sharma ki Dulhania is a light entertainer much like any other Karan Johar film. As a romantic comedy, it is a refreshing lovey-dovey film which will leave you happy-hearted!

Plot: Soon to be married Kavya Pratap Singh, travels to Delhi to buy herself a designer lehenga for the wedding. There she meets a street smart lad Humpty Sharma and the two of them eventually fall in love with each other. But how will Humpty win the hearts of Kavya’s parents just a few days before her wedding?

Performances: There is something about the new generation actors which needs to be lauded. Just after a couple of films, the kind of confidence and improvement you see in them is just phenomenal.

Varun Dhawan seems to have been tailor-made for this role. He meticulously syncs into the character, thereby, delivering a very fine performance. As far as his comic timing is concerned, he is truly blessed.

Alia Bhatt is no less than an experienced actor of her league. She is vibrant and super-confident in her demeanour. This lady has a tremendous potential to become a superstar quite very soon.

Senior actor Ashutosh Rana was amazingly good in his role. It was a delight watching him after such a long time.

Siddharth Shukla had not much to do in this film besides looking like the perfect prospect for any girl.

Music: The film might have a feel-good effect to it but the songs of the film definitely didn’t feel good. The album is totally unworthy as compared to the film itself. The songs are meaningless and don’t stick to the ears.

What’s Good: Watching a light romantic comedy always brings a smile to the audience’s face. The film is good to watch for those who believe in fairy-tale romances. Both the leads are quite vibrant and delightful to watch.

What’s Bad: The inadequate adaptation of DDLJ, clichés of family drama, the uninteresting soundtrack and the abrupt climax.

As an adaptation of the epitome of romance DDLJ, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania stands no good in comparison. But as a light entertainer, it is a true value for money. The film is full of romance, comedy and drama and thus, scores good on this front. After a long time we get a chance to watch an effortlessly entertaining film. So take your family for an outing this weekend and go and watch Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania!

Verdict: Refresh your memories of DDLJ with Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania!
