We all have grown up watching those commonplace romantic flicks. Now when we look back, they might be problematic on various grounds but have given us hours of joy at some point. Mansoor Khan’s ‘Josh’ starring Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai is one of them which completed 20 years today and gives us some major throwback.

On this occasion, let us revisit all those iconic films which completes two decades in 2020:

1. Kaho Naa … Pyaar Hain

A romantic thriller written and directed by Rakesh Roshan; the film was the biggest hit of its time. From this film Hrithik Roshan debuted and became an overnight sensation. The film also went into the Guinness World Records (2002) for being a feature film with the most awards won.

2. Hera Pheri

With generations after generation watching this film and appreciating its humour, the film became a cult classic. Directed by Priyadarshan, the film had an unusual casting – Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar and Suneil Shetty. The plot revolved around a kidnapping and a comic garage owner Baburao Ganpatrao Apte and the chaos in their lives is hilarious to watch.

The film also gave us the most unforgettable dialogue “Utha re le baba, utha le … mere ko nahi re.. in dono ko utha le”.

3. Josh

Completed 20 years today, the film is an action-thriller directed and co-written by Mansoor Khan. The film was set in 1980’s Goa amidst the backdrop of real estate deals in the state. In this film the leading commercial actors like Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai played a twin brother-sister duo which was offbeat at that time. The film also had a very successful song “Apun bola tu meri laila …” Though, the song received backlash for its lyrics which questioned consent.

4. Kya Kehna!

A family-romantic-drama written by Honey Irani and directed by Kundan Shah, the film enticed a lot of attention for its subject which dealt with premarital pregnancy and teenage motherhood. The films had an ensemble cast of Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan, Chandrachud Singh, Farida Jalal and Anupam Kher.

5. Dhadkan

Another classic romantic drama of 2000, co-written and directed by Dharmesh Darshan and produced by Ratan Jain. The film is an emotionally charged drama about an eternal triangle. Songs like ‘Dil ne yeh kaha hain dil se’ and ‘Tum dil ki dhadkan mein’ emerged as massive chart busters.
