Who would have thought that a woman would be seen selling condoms? But this movie has broken the boundaries and made it possible. With a story revolving around a female protagonist and dealing with a sensitive issue, Janhit Mein Jaari has done a pretty good job to an extent.
Starring talented actors like Vijay Raaz and Nushrratt Bharuccha, Janhit Mein Jaari is a social comedy that deals with an important social message of coping with the stigma around condoms.
From using alternate names to staying sushhh about it, Indians have their ways of dealing with this issue. But Janhit Mein Jaari has taken a step forward and tried spreading awareness about safe sex, protection, and women’s reproductive health.
Story
It is a story of a small-town girl Manokamna Tripathi aka Manu, who lives in Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh. She wants to be independent, but like most Indian parents, she is also given a choice to either find a job in a fixed period or marry the guy they want.
In that hurry, she took the job with a handsome salary package. To her dismay, it was the job of the sales executive of a local condom manufacturing company named Little Umbrella Pvt. Ltd. Keeping the challenges in hand, she took up the task of selling condoms. In the meantime, she also marries her love, Ranjan, a local actor who plays mythological characters.
The entire plot of the movie revolves around the struggle of Manokamna. It shows how she convinces her family about her job. How she struggles to deal with her in-laws, who are orthodox, and how she convinces herself to continue her job.
Cast and Crew
The film’s cast includes the well-known Nushratt Bharucha, Vijay Raaz, Anud Singh Dhaka, Brijendra Kala, Tinnu Anand, and Paritosh Tripathi, and some other talented actors in the supporting roles. The film is written by Raaj Shandilyaa along with Yusuf Ali Khan and Utsav Sarkar. Jai Basantu Singh has directed this 147-minute-long film.
Review
Nushratt has delivered a convincing performance as a small-town girl with dreams of creating her career. Anud Singh Dhaka playing the love interest of Manokamna has also shown a good performance in her debut film.
Despite having less screen time, Bijendra Kala has delivered a memorable performance. Playing the film’s antagonist, Vijay Raaz has done an excellent dialogue delivery. Moreover, the whole cast has adapted the local accent very well, which makes the character believable and relatable to the audience.
Director Jai Basantu Singh has played a decent job in his first attempt at directing a film. However, Raaj Shandilyaa’s writing was close to perfect in making people believe that the film is set in a small town in Madhya Pradesh. But despite writing funny one-liners and punch lines, the writing lacks in delivering its message truly.
All in all, this film is a social comedy that you can watch with your friends and family.
