The year 2019 passed in the blink of an eye and Bollywood has managed to swing around the recession of 2018 by making INR 3,700 crores in the first three quarters of 2019, which is huge progress compared to INR 3,000 crores which were generated in the first three quarters of 2018.

Let’s look at some of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of 2019 so far:

1. War – INR 450 Crores

Released on October 2, War is the highest-grossing film of 2019 so far which made INR 450 crores worldwide. The film had big names such as Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff and emerged as a commercial success. However, the film received a mixed review for its predictable plot and imbecility.

2. Uri: The Surgical Strike – INR 342 Crores

Directed by the debutant Aditya Dhar, Uri was released on January 11, which is based on the Uri attack of 2016 where four heavily armed terrorists attacked an Indian Army brigade headquarters in Uri. Right after the release of this film, there was another attack on Pulwama on February 14, 2019. With the rage and anger in people, the film was kept alive for a long time with its popular dialogue “… how’s the josh? High Sir”. The film has also won four national awards including best director and best actor.

3. Kabir Singh – INR 331.24 Crores

Got a theatrical release on June 21, Kabir Singh is a remake of the Telugu film Arjun Reddy. Directed by Sandeep Vanga, starring Kiara Advani and Shahid Kapoor, this film is another huge success of 2019. Though it was a commercial success, the film has been widely criticized for its misogyny.

4.Bharat – INR 325.58 Crores

Released on the occasion of Eid-al-Fitr on June 5, Bharat made INR 42.30 crores on its first day. Eventually, it picked up and made a huge number in the box office. Bharat is a story of a common man during the age of partition.

5. Total Dhamaal – INR 228.27 Crores

A reboot of 2007 film Dhamaal, Total Dhamaal is one of the high budget films of 2019. With an ensemble cast of Ajay Devgan, Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi and Javed Jaffrey, the film has been produced on a 90 Crore budget. Despite its low reviews, the film has managed to enter the 200 Crore club.

6. Chhichhore – INR 212.67 Crore

A coming-of-age drama, Chhichhore has been well-received by the audience. Released on September 6, the film stars Shraddha Kapoor, Sushant Rajput, Varun Sharma to name a few.

7. Super 30 – INR 208.93 Crores

The movie is based on the life of Anand Kumar, the mathematician best known for his Super 30 programme. The film is made on a budget of INR 60 Crores and earned more than INR 200 crores. Starring Hrithik Roshan, the film has received mixed reviews, but it has managed to get commercial success.

8. Housefull 4 – INR 206 Crores

Housefull 4 is a comedy-drama which was supposed to be directed by Sajid Khan but later replaced by Farhad Samji due to #metoo allegations. Despite its controversies and dunce story-telling, Housefull 4 managed to make INR 206 Crores and become one of the highest-grossing films of the year.
