Movie Plot: Rumi (Taapsee Pannu), a polar opposite of the famous philosopher and writer, is a fickle minded woman who is madly in love with Vicky (Vicky Kaushal), a DJ. She is an orphan and has been raised by her grandfather since the untimely death of her parents. Rumi wants to get married to Vicky as she is seriously in love with him but the boyfriend of this vivacious girl has cold feet and is scared of commitments. Finally, Rumi decides to move on when Vicky turns down repeated requests of Rumi to bring his parents over and ask her hand for marriage. Rumi veers towards the prospect of arranged marriage and finds Robbie, a London-returned banker who has fallen for her. Thus, the movie enters a proverbial love triangle which ultimately ends with the end of the movie.

Movie Review: Manmarziyaan, written by novelist Kanika Dhillon and directed by Anurag Kashyap, is a delightful story of an aplomb woman, her commitment-phobic lover and an unflappable NRI banker who ultimately becomes her husband. This quirky love triangle set in Amritsar is presented with such maturity by Anurag Kashyap that it appears refreshing. With characters constantly juggling between their complex emotions, Manmarziyaan appears realistic and portrays an updated version of romance. At times, it’s so relatable that one can feel the pangs of love and compare it to modern relationships.

The characters in the movie are not white or black like other Bollywood films. They are rather beautifully presented in shades of grey. Kashyap has decoded the magic of love in this movie by displaying the riddled mind of his flawed characters. They are conscious of their flaws and are also ready to deal with them.

Coming to the performance, Taapsee is the show-stopper of the movie. The scene in which she ultimately breaks down is one of her best moments. Vicky Kaushal has also given the finest performances of his career. He has used the most out of his character and emerged as a rising star in the movie. The performance of Abhishek Bachchan can’t be ignored as he has also acted really well and has made an impactful comeback after 2 years. Supporting cast which includes Akshay Arora, Vishavpreet Kaur have contributed their parts to make the movie appear realistic.
This new age love story nowhere fails to create a spell over its viewers.

Our verdict: The performances of the actors are convincing in the movie. The bold theme of the movie may not be comprehended by all types of the audience but is surely going to appeal the new-age lovers. Manmarziyaan has a veneer of intelligence so we give a thumbs up to this film. It’s worth a watch.
