About Movie Mohenjo Daro

Set in 2016 BC at the peak of the Indus Valley Civilization, Mohenjo Daro is an Indian epic adventure-romance movie. Written and directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar, the flick features Hrithik Roshan and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles. The result of over three years of research undertaken by Ashutosh Gowarikar, Mohenjo Daro is the story about a farmer who travels to the UNESCO World Heritage site called Mohenjo-daro and falls in love with an elite woman. He further challenges the city’s renowned personnel to save the civilization.

Plot

Mohenjo Daro revolves around an indigo farmer from Amri, Sindh named Sarman (played by Hrithik Roshan) who travels to the largest city called Mohenjo-Daro. It is at this place that Sarman saves the life of an elite woman named Chaani (played by Pooja Hedge) during a street mishap. Soon, Sarman falls in love with Chaani and to win her, he is expected to defeat the politician Maham (played by Kabir Bedi) and his son Moonja (played by Arunoday Singh), who are intending to take complete control of Mohenjo-Daro as an empire. Will Sarman win his lady love and save the civilization? Watch out the movie to find the answer.

Performances

When it comes to a Hrithik Roshan starrer, you can undoubtedly expect a brilliant performance delivered by an actor who is known to push the envelope and loves giving it his all to every role he plays; he is known to put in a lot into all his characters. Mohenjo Daro marks Hritik’s performance as a memorable one.

Mohenjo Daro’s leading lady Pooja Hegde, playing the character of Chaani, the princess, too, has delivered a decent performance, apart from looking ethereal on screen.

Kabir Bedi, in a negative role has done complete justice to his character, and his growls and glares will indeed keep the audience on his side. He is known to have entertained the audience through various genres, and Mohenjo-Daro could well be another apt example in his renowned global filmography.

Mohenjo Daro Music

The commendable team of Ashutosh Gowarikar, A.R. Rahman and Javed Akhtar is back together for yet another period film, after Gowarikar’s much acclaimed Jodhaa Akbar. The movie has an excellent music album comprising wonderful songs that will definitely set defining standards.

The album opens with the title track “Mohenjo Mohenjo”, which has an African touch to it. The song has been faultlessly sung by talented singer Arijit Singh and is the track that focuses more on background singers.

Next is “Sindhu Ma”, which praises the river Sindhu and is indeed the best track of the film, impressively sung by A.R. Rahman and Sanah Moidutty.

Then there is ‘Sarsariya’, which is a sweet, flirtatious number and marks the beginning of a new love story between Sarman and Chaani. The song has been superbly sung by Shasha and Shashwat and is a complete delight to hear.

Next is “Tu Hai”, which again is a romantic number sung by Rahman and Sanah Moidutty. The beautiful lyrics of Javed Akhtar have made the song an instant hit.

The instrumental version of this song has been titled, “The Shimmer of Sindhu”. It is also a melodious track and has the capacity to fill music fans with joy.

“Whispers of the Mind” and “Whispers of the Heart” are two instrumental songs with calming tunes; these songs reflect the hymn chants in the Buddhist monastery.

Lastly, there is “Lak Lak Thora” which is an instrumental version of “Sarsariya”. It hikes the playfulness and flirtatious tone of ‘Sarsariya” to give listeners a vintage feel.

What’s Good?

The performances of lead actors is the major USP of Mohenjo Daro. Direction, cinematography and music are other upsides of the movie which make it a must-watch.

What’s Bad?

A little dragged storyline and certain loopholes in the movie’s climax might disappoint fans of Ashutosh Gowarikar’s movies.

Verdict

Unlike a typical Bollywood Masala movie, Mohenjo Daro is a period flick. Full of love, drama, action, romance and a journey to ancient civilization, it is definitely a movie you’ll end up falling in love with. Go watch!
