Movie Plot:

The movie is based on one of the greatest singers of all time – Freddie Mercury. The British singer was the lead vocalist of the well known rock band Queen. His four octave vocal range had people fall in love with the songs, especially – Bohemian Rhapsody. The biopic recollects his troubled personal life, as well as the rise of Queen, until the much-famous Live Aid performance of the band, which Fred led even while battling life-threatening illness.

Movie Review:

If you have stomped your foot to the beats of ‘We Will Rock You’, or motivated yourself hearing ‘We are the Champions’, you are probably expecting the best out of the biopic. After all, the trailer was thrilling itself. Freddie was a man who shattered the old stereotypes and came out of the closest to emerge as one of the biggest entertainers – how could the biopic have not been interesting? The movie portrays his undying spirit, with a perfect song at the right timing.

Rami Malek did justice to the role of Freddie Mercury. However, the movie did lack a little attention to detail. The movie tried covering the life of Freddie as well as the band in 136 minutes, and couldn’t bring out the best of both. Instead of digging into details of their life, they covered the portions which most of the fans might already have been aware of. If you had an inquisitive bone in you, to know more about the controversial life of Freddie, you might leave the movie hall a bit dissatisfied. Apart from that, the emotional anecdotes, the depiction of period when Freddie came out of the closet, and how the band stood together for the ‘misfits’ of society – the movie has enough content to keep the audience engrossed.

Our Verdict:

With no prior knowledge to Mercury’s life, you could enjoy the movie a bit more, and the exceptional acting of the talented actors. The soundtrack, well of course, will do its bit to keep you hooked onto the chairs. Get ready to be rocked!

Achievement

Despite the mixed reviews about the movie, it still managed to break the box office. According to box office mojo, the movie has managed to earn a whopping 900 million dollars. Besides, making money the Bohemian Rhapsody has grabbed the attention of the movie critics as it has 4 Oscars and 80 nominations to its name. The leading male actor Rami Malek won an Oscar for the best performance and also managed to win the best leading actor at BAFTA 2019 awards too.
