Plot: The movie, “Vodka Diaries”, directed by Kushal Srivastava is a suspense thriller. The story revolves around a cop ACP Ashwini Dixit (Menon) and his life. His family is his pretty wife Shikha (Mandira Bedi) with whom he lives a normal life, share drinks and discusses literature. Another companion in his life is his assistant (Sharib Hashmi) with whom he discusses the cases. He is given a case to solve in which a girl is murdered. Later he discovers four more dead bodies and comes to know that all people who have been murdered share one thing in common that is they have been in the hotel “Vodka Diaries” for an anniversary party. The twist in the tale arises when the case becomes personal and his wife also goes missing while solving the case.

Movie Review: In this movie, Kay Kay Menon is an ordinary cop as displayed in the mystery novels. He is not the typical Bollywood hero who is expected to do a lot of action. The beautiful natural scenery, the high trees, and the snow in the opening scenes of the movie when Kay Kay is seen running on the roads makes us realize that the movie is set in Manali. Menon looks intense and ironic in the movie. The plot of the movie is breath-taking and full of suspense. It keeps you stuck in the movie, you will not feel like taking a break before the interval.

Mandira is not provided a larger space in the movie but she is an asset as she has tried hard to give her best. Writer Vaibhav Bajpai has put his maximum efforts to secure stability by balancing the out of control plot about the cop who seems to be losing control over the happenings while trying to solve the Penta-murder mystery.

Kay Kay in the movie is a normal human being who is also scared of the unusual happenings taking place in his life. This has led to an emotional turmoil in his life. He wants to keep calm and handle the situations wisely and to battle his inner demons. He is trying to be strong throughout. The film is more inclined towards being a psychological thriller instead of an action thriller. The tricky maze of the plot leads to an unexpected ending of the movie.

Our verdict: You can go to watch the movie if you are a fan of the thriller genre and want to enjoy your weekend. But if you are not a lover of suspense and thriller then this movie is surely going to disappoint you. It is a one-time watch movie. You should stay until the end of the movie if you are a music lover to treat your ears with the voice of Rekha Bhardwaj and Ustad Rashid Khan.
