If you are a fan of over-the-top love stories, clichéd romance, family drama and typical bollywood masala of the 90s, this one’s for you! Prabhudeva’s Ramaiya Vastavaiya, the official remake of Telugu blockbuster Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana , is a light hearted flick with a high dose of melodrama. It is the amalgamation of every possible cliché of the 90s.

Plot: A super rich and boisterous NRI boy falls in love with a sweet and simple village girl. As one could expect, enters the over-possessive angry brother, whom the boy needs to impress to prove his love for the girl!

Performances: Debutant Girish Kumar, with his innocent looks and naïve charm, manages to impress the audience. From being a mischievous rich boy to a hard-working lover, he portrays all the elements of a hero quite well. A new star in the making for bollywood!

Shruti Haasan, looks pretty and convincing as a village girl. Nonetheless, she definitely needs to brush up her acting skills.

Sonu Sood is charismatic and vigorous as an elder brother.

Music: The music score of the film has been given by the composer duo Sachin-Jigar. With six tracks lined up, the album is an average one. From love songs to dance numbers, it has it all! “Jeene laga hun” by Atif Aslam has been rocking the charts everywhere.

What’s good: It’s funny, melodramatic, soulful and has all elements of a typical fairy tale love story! One that can easily be seen with family.

What’s bad: Over-the-top emotions, a typical plot and the unbearable clichés tend to get unbearable.

All in all, Ramaiya Vastavaiya is a sweet, family movie made for those who are fond of typical love stories. It’s a regular bollywood entertainer with flavors of comedy, romance and family drama. Not bad as light entertainer!

Verdict: It should perhaps be called as the remake of “Maine Pyar Kia” 😐
