Ranbir Kapoor, this name is itself a brand. He is the great-grandson of Prithviraj Kapoor and belongs to the most prominent Bollywood family- ‘The Kapoors’. Being in the Hindi film industry for about one and a half decades, he has shown his versatility as an actor and given some of his career-best performances.

From playing a mute and deaf guy in Anurag Basu’s ‘Barfi!’ to playing a rich spoilt brat in Ayaan Mukherjee’s ‘Wake Up SId’ and then getting into the skin of Sanjay Dutt in ‘Sanju’, he has made his mark in Bollywood. 

Besides, the actor had been in the headlines for all the right and wrong reasons, be it his films, relationships, ex-girlfriends, breakups, or marriage.

Personal Life

Ranbir Raj Kapoor was born to Rishi and Neetu Kapoor on September 28, 1982, in Bombay, with an elder sibling, Riddhima Kapoor Sahani. Ranbir completed his early education at Bombay Scottish School and pre-university at H.R. College of Commerce and Economics. After this, he went to New York City and studied filmmaking at the School of Visual Arts. Simultaneously he studied method acting at Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institue.

Ranbir has dated Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif in the past. In April 2022, he married famous Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt after dating her for around five years. Besides acting, he also plays football for charity. He is a content and programming advisor for Saavn and a goodwill ambassador of the Mijwan Welfare society of Shabana Azmi. He has also made his contribution to helping people affected by natural disasters.

Ranbir entered the film industry in 1999 as an assistant director to Rishi Kapoor in the film ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalen’. Then after completing his studies, he was an assistant director to Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Black in 2005.

He made his Bollywood debut as an actor in 2007 with Saawariya, which failed at the Box Office. He got his big break with Bachna ae Haseeno in 2008. Then in 2009, he appeared in successful films like Wake Up Sid and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. 

The following year he did Raajneeti, for which he got praised for his acting. He then appeared in Anjaana Anjani. His next release, Rockstar and Barfi! also got him recognition and praise for his portrayal. In 2013, he played the famous character of Bunny in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani opposite Deepika Padukone.

His following three films, Besharam, Roy and Bombay Velvet, didn’t do well at the box Office. But he was back in the game with Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha in 2015. Next year, his film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil received mixed responses. His next in 2017 was Jagga Jasoos which was again a failure on the big screen.

In 2018, he played the character of Sanjay Dutt in his biographical film Sanju. He was appreciated for his performance, and the film became a hit. After a long break, he was last seen in Shamshera, which was released in July 2022.

He has also won Stardust Award, Zee Cine Award, People’s Choice Awards, Critics Choice Film Award and NDTV Awards for his contribution to the Hindi film Industry. He has also been featured in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list since 2012.

Ranbir’s last release was Shamshera which is currently running o the big screen. He will next be seen in Brahmastra opposite Alia Bhatt. An untitled movie opposite Shraddha Kapoor and Sandeep Vanga’s ‘Animal’ opposite Rashmika Mandanna is in the pipeline.
