About Shaandaar Movie
Weddings have been one of the favourite themes of Bollywood filmmakers since many years. No doubt! The Indian audience love to watch such movies and why not? After all, these films are full of entertainment – music, dance, comedy, romance and drama. ‘Shaandaar’ is also based on wedding, but, with a difference. As quoted by the makers of the movie, it is “India’s first destination wedding” film. Directed by Vikas Bahl, who garnered many awards and attention with his directorial debut ‘Queen’ and featuring Shahid-Alia together for the first time, ‘Shaandaar’ managed to grab the attention of the audiences much before its release.
Plot
Two affluent families, headed by Kamla Arora (Sushma Seth) and Harry Fandwani (Sanjay Kapoor) are getting their children, Eesha (Sanah Kapoor) and Robin (Diljit Dosanjh) married for a business deal. The lavish destination wedding is organised by wedding planner, Jagjinder Joginder aka JJ (Shahid Kapoor). Alia (Alia Bhatt) who is the bride’s sister and JJ are both insomniacs and fall in love with each other. Alia’s father Bipin Arora (Pankaj Kapoor) is not in favour of their relationship. So, the fairy-tale romance have a happy ending or will it get ruined by the father’s disagreement?
Performances
Let’s begin with Pankaj Kapoor: this veteran actor has so much versatility that he can fit into any role with much ease. In ‘Shaandaar’ too he has excelled in his performance and once again given his best.
Shahid is absolutely brilliant and fantastic! Whether playing a rowdy character in R..Rajkumar , a serious role in a film like Haider, or a male lead in a romantic comedy ‘Shandaar’; Shahid has proved that he has inherited acting skills and versatility from his father. He has looked hot, danced brilliantly and performed superbly in the film.
One will fall short of words to explain Alia’s acting skills in the movie. She was the best among all the actors! She is a powerhouse of talent who performs every role; in fact, each scene with so much ease that one can’t resist to fall in love with her. She is amazing, super and incredible in the movie.
The trio Shahid-Alia-Pankaj share a strong chemistry in the film.
Sanah Kapoor, who made a debut with ‘Shaandaar’ has looked cute and pretty and has delivered a decent performance. All other supporting actorslike Sanjay Kapoor, Sushma Seth, Diljit Dosanjh and others have done justice to their respective roles.
Karan Johar’s special appearance and Naseeruddin Shah’s narration came as a surprise.
The dialogues and screenplay were good; however, director Vikas Bahl has not able to create the same magic he did in ‘Queen’.
Shaandaar Music
For a romantic comedy, music is the biggest USP that plays an important role in its success! The music of ‘Shaandaar’ stands up to that level and successfully grabs the attention of the audience. Composed by Amit Trivedi, the album has six numbers – each of which is different from the other. ‘Gulaabo’ and ‘Sham Shandaar’ are the best picks from the entire slot. Moreover, both Shahid and Alia are great dancers who make songs a delight to watch for the audience.

What’s Good?
The beautiful foreign locations, quirky chemistry between Shahid and Alia and fantastic performances by all the actors make it a full-fledged Bollywood masala movie. The father-daughter relationship has been beautifully portrayed in the film. The animated scenes used for the flashbacks accentuate the fairy-tale theme in the film.
What’s Bad?
The script is not very powerful and the direction is confused. Most of the scenes and moments are predictable ones. Director Vikas Bahl should have known that the Indian audience is intelligent now-a-days and can foretell what is going to come next. The Sindhi jokes by Sanjay Kapoor are stretched and irritating.
Verdict:
For those who want to enjoy the quirky chemistry between Alia and Shahid, it’s a Shaandaar-watch this festive season!
