Making a sequel of a blockbuster film that is already a complete package requires a lot of conviction. Gladly, director Anand. L. Rai had all his ideas in place and decided to delight the audience with the madness of Tanu Weds Manu all over again.
Plot: After the failure of their marriage, both Tanu and Manu return to India to meet their families. While Tanu engages herself in her old lifestyle, Manu finds himself falling for Tanu’s lookalike. What happens when Tanu decides to return to Manu, forms the crux of the story.
Performances: Kangana Ranaut is one hell of a superstar! After impressing the audience with an outstanding performance in ‘Queen’, she delivers yet another amazing piece of work in this film. She is effortless as Tanu and extremely meticulous as Kusum. Right from the body language to the Haryanvi diction, Kangana nails it with perfection. She is one actress who truly deserves a bow.
R.Madhavan is unbelievably natural. He slips into the character so perfectly that you tend to forget that you are watching a film. His acting reflects honesty and sincerity. Another wonderful performance by this worthy actor!
Deepak Dobriyal is a delight to watch. His image of a caricaturist and his antics add to the humour element of the film.
Both Jimmy Shergill and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub shine brightly in their roles.
Music: The music album of Tanu Weds Manu Returns is as crazy as the film itself. The songs are very modish and entertaining and have been perfectly placed in the film. Though the album has some very happening numbers, what we miss in this one are the soulful tracks that its prequel had. Best one from the lot has to be “Banno tera swagger”.
What’s Good: Tanu Weds Manu has an innovative plot that brings freshness to the film.It’s a sheer delight to watch Kangana Ranaut in one of the best double roles of Bollywood. The film is a laugh riot. The dialogues need a special mention for some killer one-liners that evoke whistles and applaud. It also delivers a social message, which has been imbibed in the story beautifully. The music album is an icing on the cake!
What’s Bad: The film loses itself slightly in the second half. The love story between Manu and Kusum is not as convincing as with Tanu. Also, the film lacks that surprise element in the climax that was present in the prequel.
Tanu Weds Manu Returns is one of the best sequels ever made in Bollywood. The director makes sure that the film doubles up the craziness its prequel had left the audience with. It’s completely a crowd-pleaser with enough hilarity and enjoyment. It represents rare breed of films and deserves to be watched without a thought.
Verdict: You can’t afford to miss this one!
