The Deols are back on the silverscreen! The much-awaited sequel to the blockbuster Yamla Pagla Deewana finally hits theatres. The fruitful success of the first film set high hopes for the second part but unfortunately Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 is not in the same league. It fails to emulate the standards of its predecessor.
Plot: Moving ahead with the tradition of YPD, conman Dharam Singh and his son Gajodhar Singh continue bluffing people with their usual tricks. After fooling the common people, the duo sets out for a bigger plan. This time to con a millionaire in London. The twists and turns in their plan make up for the story ahead.
Performances: When it comes to the Deols, you automatically set your hopes high with the kind of humor the trio offers. But this time everything seems to have gone wrong. Dharamendra, even with his child-like behavior, lacks spunk. The low energies of his age are clearly visible. Bobby Deol, too, fails to make any difference. No doubt he looks ravishing, but only if looks could help energize the lunatic comedy. The only relief from the unbearable torture is Sunny Deol! He is as ardent and lively as ever. In fact, he is the one worth watching. The two girls, Neha and Kristina, have nothing much to offer except for looking glamorous and pretty. Comedy legends like Anupam Kher, Johnny Lever and Anu Kapoor have been wasted completely.
Music: Composer duo Sharib-Toshi has kept the Punjabi flavor of the movie in mind while composing the tracks. The album has five tracks to offer, each one being loud and foot-tapping music. The songs are entertaining and hummable. The music of the film is the only savior.
What’s Good: Although there is nothing much that can save you from this mindless buffoonery, the action scenes nonetheless by Sunny Deol are worth watching. The music of the film is another relief.
What’s Bad: The brain-damaging absurdity can harm your senses quite dangerously. The script is bromidic and jumbled up. The stupid monkey, aimlessly added to the script, aggravates the pain. The torture gets amplified as the film doesn’t seem to end.
Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 fails to reward the much-created hype. Unlike its predeessor, this one is a big mistake by the Deols. The illogical humor couldn’t spark off any laughter, or even a smile! Give this one a big miss to spare yourself from the horror of being numbed!
Verdict: The unbearable torture actually makes you yamla (mad)!
