Kejriwal – Cornered by Women Leaders Kiran Bedi, Kiran Walia, Nupur Sharma, Jaya Prada

Kejriwal cornered by women leaders

Kejriwal cornered by women leadersDespite the chilly weather in the Capital, the heat of the upcoming Delhi Assembly election is rising day by day. The Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal is familiar to the electorate but, Kiran Bedi after her entry into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appears to be sharing the limelight with the AAP chief. Not only Bedi, Nupur Sharma, a former DUSU president, and Congress party’s seasoned political campaigner Kiran Walia’s entry in the electoral fray can make the Muffler Man sweat. Now woman power dominates the electoral scene in the Capital.

The BJP expects that the declaration of Bedi as Chief Minister candidate would facilitate it counter the AAP. In the last Assembly elections held in November 2013, the BJP had projected Harsh Vardhan as the chief ministerial candidate and Narendra Modi was the chief campaign manager. However, the party fell short by five seats to form the Government.

But after the party announced Kiran Bedi as Chief Minister candidate in the forthcoming Assembly polls, there has been considerable heartburn among its State leaders who were fancying their chances of occupying the coveted office if the saffron party gets a majority.

Arrival of Jaya Prada

A sudden and unexpected arrival of Jaya Prada for the BJP poll campaign can offer a lot of required glam quotient in the election. And as for the voters who have to make a choice between Kejriwal and Jaya Prada, time can tell if the AAP supremo can win or the charm of Jaya Prada prevails. Many times, national elections have seen former film stars step in and build an enormous impact. From Hema Malini to Shatrughan Sinha to Dharmendra, all are a part of the BJP poll campaign. As time passed, Jaya Prada hitched on to the Samajwadi Party (SP) bandwagon and was seen hanging around the likes of politician Amar Singh and the SP supremo, Mulayam Singh Yadav, making a foray into North Indian politics.

Nupur Sharma

Recently, Nupur Sharma created a stir once her name was among the list of the candidates that the BJP proclaimed for the Delhi Assembly elections 2015. Kejriwal is contesting from New Delhi constituency and includes a cub politician to fight with – 30-year old Nupur Sharma. Being a part of student politics, she believes that she has political expertise of over one decade, in comparison to Kejriwal who started his political party AAP in 2012.

Sharma has been actively involved with the BJP since 2008 and was elected the DUSU president. She was appointed media co-incharge of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth brigade of the BJP, in 2010.

Nupur Sharma is also a woman’s rights activist and a bonfire orator. She is the executive member of BJP Delhi and has recently been made a member of the special media committee. Her main work as a BJP employee is to convey the party’s plan to the media. Apart from that she is responsible for mobilising youth support for the party.

Nupur Sharma is presently encouraging young women to join the BJP. It remains to be seen if she will be able to give a tough fight to Kejriwal in the coming election.

Kiran Walia game plan

The Congress now fielded Kiran Walia against Kejriwal and she is determined to expose him on the plank that he uses throughout the election campaign. Walia is suave, erudite and among the foremost torch- bearers of women’s issues in the Capital. Yet, as women’s votes might split simply just in case of another possible outstanding lady candidate from the BJP, Walia can have a tricky task ahead of her.

Triangular contest: Muffler Man Vs women’s power

The prestigious New Delhi constituency can see a triangular contest between AAP chief Kejriwal, Congress leader Kiran Walia and Nupur Sharma of the BJP. The Congress’ seasoned campaigner Walia needed to expose Kejriwal on each front that he uses. She is in politics for a reason, to not shoot and scoot. Being a woman’s rights activist and a good orator, Nupur Sharma too is determined to give a robust fight to Kejriwal.
