Kamla Beniwal shifted from the post of Gujarat governor by NDA

The national administration has transferred Kamla Beniwal, the governor of Gujarat to Mizoram. Incidentally she had a rather troubled relationship with Narendra Modi when he was the chief minister of Gujarat. The information has been provided by Rashtrapati Bhavan, which has also stated Margaret Alva, who is presently the governor of Rajasthan will be taking over the duty at Gujarat as well. The 87-year-old Beniwal will be replacing Vakkom Purushothaman. During 2011, there was a major controversy in Gujarat over the appointment of retired judge, RA Mehta as the Lokayukta of Gujarat. The main cause of contention in this regard was the fact that the state government had not been consulted before the appointment.

As per the reports on the said decision, Purushothaman will be assuming the responsibility of Nagaland’s governor. He will also be assuming the responsibilities of Tripura’s governor. In fact, the NDA government has asked the governors of some states to step down from their duties since the UPA government had appointed them during its tenure. In a message the Rashtrapati Bhavan has also stated that Beniwal will serve in Mizoram for the remainder of the term that she is supposed to work as a governor.

Railway budget could see inclusion of private players

There is a chance that in the upcoming rail budget private companies – both within India as well as outside it – could get a bigger window of participation in order to ensure improved facilities for the passengers such as faster trains, the best of stations in every sense of the world, and a secure journey. The rail budget is set to be presented on July 8. In fact, it is believed that Narendra Modi has been providing his inputs on the budget to Sadananda Gowda. Gowda has also organised several meetings with various departments and informed them about the vision that Modi has regarding how the railways in India should operate. Officials in the rail ministry are of the opinion that there is a great chance that the upcoming rail budget would reflect, in a significant way, Modi’s vision. The focus is presently on attaining development but in the shortest span of time possible. It is thus clear that private capital will be necessary in order to modernise the railways and achieve what Modi is thinking and this is where the private companies can come in. There are areas where a lot of work needs to be done like developing corridors for allowing high speed trains and also modernise the stations.

Narendra Modi to face the biggest test before union budget presentation at Rajya Sabha

The budget session for the upcoming 2014-15 budget shall start on July 7 at the Rajya Sabha and experts feel that will be the first major test that Modi faces as a PM because at the upper house the parties that have not allied with the NDA have gained a majority. The first couple of budgets to be presented by the ruling coalition are going to be the major talking points in a session that will last a month. As things stand now, there is not much by way of laws and ordinances but it is expected that without support from Congress and the other opponents NDA may find it hard to go through unscathed as far as the budgets are concerned. It is expected that prior to this session, Sumitra Mahajan, the speaker of Lok Sabha, may have to decide whether Congress should be accorded the status of main opposition in the Lok Sabha.

In a tweet, Modi stated that the contributions made by Mukherjee for India were beyond evaluation and termed him as the inspiration for his party that is presently ruling the country. He also remembered that for Mookerjee, the most important matters were serving the common people and he was always focused about empowering the youth through education.
